Why does Gmail have to suck?

I have for the last few days, been playing with Yahoo! Mail, and I'm realizing how much better it is over Gmail. I wouldn't mind paying the $20 a year to have the upgraded Yahoo either... I just want good web mail.

Gmail has no calendar. The contact list SUCKS. I can't sync it with a PDA. I can do all of this with Yahoo and to boot, it's prettier.

And that pisses me off, because my email address at gmail is GREAT! (My first name). My Yahoo account isn't bad either (first name + last initial).

Now I want to switch to Yahoo!'s mail, but the pain in the ass of switching my accounts will annoy me. I have a domain with my name... maybe I should sign up with a domain account (me@mydomain.com) or whatever...

BAHH... Google is great but they are great at SEARCH. Yahoo seems to have the market cornered on all the fun stuff. 🙁

Any advice appreciated.

I guess I can wait a while... 🙁

I'm just irritated because if I get a PDA... it's as good as useless with Gmail.

This thing has been a beta forever. So, everyone just say Beta because it makes you feel good to love teh Google. Oh Google my Google.

Um, then use Yahoo. Nobody is forcing you to use Gmail. I used Yahoo mail for like a year too, and it was good, but i'm hooked on gmail myself. Different strokes for different folks.

How many features has google added to Gmail in the past 6 months? It's still a beta.

Gmail > Yahoo

With a single thread you have told me more about yourself then you can possible know.

Here is a hint, you can have Gmail do everything you just described it couldn't do. Perhaps you should use GOOGLE and the marvelous search capabilities you seem to understand that it has, and figure things out before you make youself look any more ignorant.

Beta.

Just keep saying it until it burns into your head.

They're adding features left and right.
my first thought also. Yahoo has had a ton of time (basically since we knew the Internet as it is today) to implement all those things. My Yahoo, Calendar, Briefcase... the whole portal thing... Gmail was done in a fraction of the time and they are still going... no reason to think what you see is all you get.

stick with gmail, having name you like is a plus, its still new compared to the others so there will be changes to come

Its free and its still beta.
You have no right to bitch.

Go make your own free email and serve millions of people and we'll evaluate you.

Perhaps the problem is that he uses Yahoo and it is easy and straightforward. No search required. Whereas with Google you also have to use their search engine in order to fully use their email program?

Also, how could he look 'more ignorant'. If he doesn't know about the calendar he can't look more ignorant about the calendar, right?

People go insane when defending Google. It actually cracks me up. What is it about Google that brings out the fanboy in so many people here? It has been like this for so long. I can't say much since I do use Gmail and don't have any issues with it but I've never been so vehement in defending it. 😛

LOL, I suppose.

I don't really have an issue if people want and honestly like Yahoo better. But the OP is using arguments against Gmail that are baseless. Gmail can sync to a PDA, and it can have calander capabilities. It can do all of the things the OP says it can't.

Sometimes I just wonder if I'm really on a tech forum.

And they're still adding features to it... including a calendar which will hopefully be out soon (the website is there: calendar.google.com).

What, is removing the 'beta' going to suddenly make it complete?

Maybe it's because it's a superior service.

what kind of pda are you going to get? get one that has wireless internet capabilities, and you can browse right into gmail. you dont need to send only a few emails to the PDA to read, thats kind of boring anyhow. Just get a better PDA with wi-fi and you're good to go. 🙂 hell my cellphone can read gmail now thanks to their mobile mail version of the site. 😀

Actually, I have to agree with you. Not only does Yahoo! provide so mail, but so many different services as well. I'm going to look for my post that I posted previously. (I think there were two that I posted like this).

edit: found it. Only one topic, not two.

I could understand the whole "easy" thing if this was a "Grand Parents on Computers forum" or perhaps an Apple forum, but the fact that it requires a bit of in depth navigating shouldn't turn people off on a tech forum. Just my opinion I guess.

The fact the Gmail supports POP3, as I understood it at least, is a widely known fact among any tech person. If you read the FAQ all the info is there for you, its not like your navigating through the depths of an abyss to find the required information. You set up Gmail through Outlook, boom you have a calander. Thunderbird, use the sunbird extension. Syncing through a PDA is done the same way.

I used to use Yahoo and I liked it before they started sending me emails saying they were getting rid of POP3 access but I could still have it for $9.95 a month. I still have a yahoo email account or two, but Gmail is just superior in all ways.

Plenty of companies with 'completed' products are constantly adding features to their products.

My annoyance is less with Gmail itself and more with the OMG I LOVE TEH GOOGLE fanboy people. Hey, I like my gmail account(s). I just don't lick my screen when I open them. 🙂

Yup, I refused to use Gmail until they added POP3. I hate web based email with a passion especially Gmails since it was constantly giving me the 'Loading' (or whatever the word is) message and then loading to a blank screen. It could have been a problem with Firefox or anything but I had nothing but issues before POP3. Smooth sailing now.
