Why does anyone wear Converse All-Stars?? These things are awful

I got a pair from Zappos the other day, and I've been trying to walk around my house in them...these might be the most uncomfortable things I've ever had on my feet in my life. It feels like I have a piece of plywood strapped to the bottom of my foot. The balls of my feet feel like they're getting hit with a hammer every time I put my foot down....do these things break-in, or is this how it's supposed to feel?

Not a fan of them either. Always felt like walking on hard board.
 
They are popular at the gym among "hardcore" weight lifters.
They think the flat soles are better for deadlifts and squats.
I think they are just screwing up their feet.
I base this on no personal experience though...

They look terribly uncomfortable with the flat soles, but my kids have been begging for them since they are so popular right now. I'm not sure what the appeal is other than for fashion. I couldn't see myself buying or wearing them.
 
They're hipster gear, hipsters wear them to look even more stupid than they already do. Nobody actually buys them for utility or comfort, they're an anti-fashion statement.

For years they were the footwear choice of the drugged-out kid with greasy hair living in his parents' basement and playing in garage band. About the furthest thing from a hipster.
 
When I saw the thread title, I couldnt beleive it until I googled. They are actually still making these sneakers?? 😱

I remember being a kid in the late 80s to early 90s and wearing a pair of these. Had no idea they were still in production and fashionable??

C'mon man, they have been eternal. Never understood the appeal myself, but I know they have remained popular.
 
I have a pair that I wear on weekends. Very comfortable. I've walked countless miles in them. Are you overweight?

Because 20 years is an eternity. 🙄

Canvas gym shoes have been around almost 100 years and have never gone out of production. I remember wearing Keds, All-Stars (Chuck Taylor's) and PF Flyers while growing up. It's pretty much all that any kid wore before the explosion of sneaker companies that came later.
 
Love the converse all stars. They feel perfectly comfortable to me. No pains while walking with them all day and I like how compact they are, not bulky and also great for driving because you can really feel the pedal feedback.

WTF rock have you been living under? For years they indeed were the choice of druggies with greasy hair. Those years were the 1980s. Now All-Stars and Chuck Taylors are the footwear of choice for douchebag hipsters.
 
Just think...40+ years ago, those were the best athletic shoe you could get... :\

They were the "Official Basketball Shoe of the NBA" for years and years.
