You don't say the 30th of January do you? No. It's January 30th.

We British do. ;)

Well you guys drive on the wrong side of the road so it doesn't surprise me you guys are all messed up.

The English used to use the month-day-year layout centuries ago, so it's probably a hold-over from then.

Sure. Lots of people do.

I usually write the date as 2006/01/07. I think that's the SI way or something.

Our way seems weird to you because it's not the way you were brought up with, and vice versa...simple as that.

Why does one way have to be "better"? It's just different is all...

Yes I under stand that, and that is also the very point I made in my second post.

However, IMO, numerical order is more logical.

Right...it's more logical to you for the reason we already agree to. You would probably think the opposite if you were born and raised in the states.

But surely order of size, either one way or the other, _is_ more logical regardless of upbringing. It's not like spelling colour or ... arse ... or something.

YYYY/MM/DD is more logical. Most significant to least significant digit. Just like other numbers. You don't say you are 4inches and 6 feet tall. Or that you are 6 months and 25 years old.
Or that it's 57:3 pm.

Nope! The way you Brits do it just seems odd to me :)

Aussies and kiwis do it too. Not surprising since they are a british penal colony.

yup, so does india...infact i think the whole world does it that way.

Hey, roundabouts > cross roads ;)

BITE YOUR TONGUE traffic circles or "roundabouts" as you call them are the worst invention in the history of driving.

I'm inclined to agree after driving through some in NJ.

haha.

This brings me onto yet another illogical subject.

I?ve driven in America and I hated it. Sometimes I just felt like using the crossroads on International Drive as roundabout :p

I don?t like the idea at all, you?re committed if you take a wrong turn.

And what is the J walking thing all about  :p

On a side note, I do realise we differ in culture:)

You guys DO speak English over there right? Because I don't understand what you just said at all. The crossroads/international drive thing? Explain...

And you're saying you're "committed" if you make a wrong turn at an intersection? Its the same thing if you take the wrong "exit" from a traffic circle. Its easier, more logical, and faster. Don't cite safety - nobody cares about safety.

J walking because we hate walking to the crossroads or waiting for the light when there is clearly no car coming.

As for the committed wrong turn thing, drive with a sense of direction. Not to mention the U-turn exists for a reason.

No no, you guys have a crime called j-walking, no one else does. Why? It's only crossing the road ffs.

i think it would make more sense if the spoken language was 7th of january 2007 instead of saying january 7th 2007.

You do know that 3 rights makes a left in a grid-based street system, no? Now, of course i understand that most European cities are not grid based, but most amurikan cities are.

Safety reasons, I guess. Obviously when j-walking you're prone to cars because you're crossing a road in which cars have the green light to travel on.

I drove briefly over there for one day. I just didn't like the protocol.

NOT to say there is anything wrong with your system, I hadn?t enough time to draw up a comparison anyway. So I pretty much chose not to drive over there. You could call me on the lack of confidence.

My post was in jest :p
