I tip because it's expected. I don't however reward laziness or rudeness.

In Utah waiters and Waitresses make $2.10 an hour, this doesn't even cover their taxes. All of their hourly wage, plus about $100-150 of their tips, is given to uncle sam. That means that their only usable income is off of tips. If you don't tip at waiter in Utah, they aren't making any money. Don't like it get another job? Who the fuck is going to serve your food then?

You get taxed on your taxable income. So if the person makes 2.10 an hour they cant be taxed more than that. Unless Utah has some crazy "everyone pays $10,000 in taxes" rule then your statement does not make sense.

These things have only 1 valid opinion. Women have a right to an abortion, no mater what their age is. A 10 year girl should be able to abort the parasite in her body without any parental consent. Gay marriage is a natural right, and for states to infrindge on it is a violation of the natural right of these people.

I tip because it is a hard job to be a waitress/waiter. I appericate the fact that if they are doing a good job, they deserve to be rewarded by a generous tip.
I think everyone should be a waiter at least once in their life, if only to see what they have to deal with.

Because it's expected. Restaurants pay them like $2/hr assuming that they make a reasonable wage from tips.
For jobs where the employee earns a reasonable hourly wage, I feel no obligation to tip, and rarely do.
If you knew they were making close to $9 an hour would you still tip?

I tip because tipping is the single best system for ensuring personalized service.
*I* get to reward good service, and punish bad service. I LIKE that the majority of the service person's pay comes from me, and that he/she has a vested interest in making me happy, not just his/her boss.
If you don't like tipping, just think of the level of service you get at your local Best Buy or WalMart. That's what you'll get in restaurants if you abolish tipping. NO THANKS!
I wouldn't want it any other way.

Tips are taxable income. You have to declare your tips at the end of your shift. Having worked in a few restaurants in Utah, I have noticed that most people are pretty honest about it. If they get a night were they get a bunch of cash tips, they usually declare a much lower amount than they actually got, but most of the time they declare all of their tips.
To pay for taxes a waiter has to A) write the company a check when they pick up their paycheck. Or B) give half of the tips back, and they collect whatever is left after taxes on their paycheck.
