The point of this thread is the following:
1) State how you found P&N: 2004 elections and my dissatisfaction with the current administration. I will admin that Rip nearly scared me off the first day
2) State what you like about P&N:"Some" of the discussions are wonderful from both sides.
3) State what brings you back:Curiosity. Politics in general. I hate Bush and like to bash him
4) State what you'd like to see for improvements and changes:Here? Not sure. Country: New administration, whether Democrat or Republican, that is ficially conservative and will work harder for deficit reduction on "BOTH" deficits. Also, not so far left on the social issues (i.e. more moderate). That is all.

1) During the beginning of the Iraq war, P&N was created and I started going there for political discussions.

2) I enjoy the posters you can't predict. Their views generally don't just fall in line with the Republican/Democratic party. They tend to intelligently discuss an issue rather than just posting the same tired views of the major parties. Unfortunately there are only a few of those here.

3) The answer to #2 is pretty much what brings me back. If there were no well thought out posts and just constant trolling than there really would be no reason to come here.

4) I'd like to see more intelligent posts of course. It would also be nice to see some of the ATOT people come in here and post once in a while. It wouldn't have to be a serious political post; it would be nice if it was funny.

Stunt, it's you that keeps me coming to the P&N :D. Your non-partisan observation of our country's economy, policy, etc. Keeps me coming back.

I mainly come here to laugh at how vapid this place is. When Ayn Randists and Libertarians are respected so much it is definitely an indicator of sadness.

The funny thing is its pretty much the same small heirarchy that gets respect around here. Hmmm... reminds you a lot of the US government eh? Entrenched people and friends getting respect...

I have a theory on American society that goes along those lines....

3) State what brings you back
4) State what you'd like to see for improvements and changes

1) I was involved in heated discussions about same-sex marriage and helmet/seatbelt laws in OT, then those threads were moved here to P&N. I got completely lost and have been wandering around here ever since.

2) I enjoy listening to the occasional intelligent discussion from the more mature, intelligent posters in here.

3) Being employeed actually prevents me from interacting with jobless deadbeats who condone mostly socialistic practices, so this place enables me to laugh at them to a certain extent.

4) Public Moderators, instead of private. Consistent rule sets. Less permabans, but more frequent "vacations."
WTF?

I hope you aren't talking about me when you say "deadbeats with no jobs". I have a job and run my own business on the side. I think thats pretty good for 21.

Umm, I guess I should have also added self-centered egotists who believe the world and all discussions revolve around them. They're pretty funny, too.

When I read your comment, I thought you might have been referring to Proletariat myself, you have had a few run ins with him afterall. So I don't agree it is self-centred of him to suspect you were talking about him or people who share his political views. labelling individuals 'deadbeats' because they don't share your political opinions is tiresome, it is the kind of bs that makes P&N more or less a waste of time for me. you are one of the worst contributors of a certain kind of snarky nastiness on this forum, I find. I do wonder if you have a lack of outlets for expression of anger or aggression IRL, how else to explain your behavior on this forum? ;)

1) I came to AnandTech back in '99 via a link in the now defunct NoWonder forums. That place had some very lively debates, but at the time, AT only had OffTopic for non-tech discussions and so you got a mix of the silly and the serious threads. A lot of people complained about the intensity of the political threads, but some of them were really great and I got involved in some of them. After I came back from one of my long absences I saw that they had created P&N, but a lot of the same posters from the good threads in OT weren't posting here, so I didn't visit much. Then I saw a thread here about women in the military and the women were getting really bashed, so being one of the few females around I decided it was a worthy enough cause to throw myself into the lion's den.

2) I like many of the topics here and the seriousness of the discussions. I still read and post in OT, but your brain can kind of go numb after the 100th YAGT and all the neffing. Most of the posters here are intelligent, mature, and interested in world and national affairs and moral and ethical questions. I get a lot of good information and learn alot from posters on both sides of an issue through their opinions and links to sources (though some of the sources are ridiculously biased ones from both sides). There is a lot of humor here and I don't mean that derisively. I've actually laughed out loud at some of the witty responses by a variety of posters. Though some of the comments here make me cringe at times because the anonymity of the internet can lead to a severe lack of civility, I can still tell that most of the posters would be the kind of people that I could and would enjoy discussing current events with in the real world. And when I see some of the back and forth, well thought out, passionate debates on topics of real importance it makes me feel a little better to be reminded that there are people out there who are engaged, involved, and who really do care about the state of the world and our society.

3) All of the above and to see the progression of the debates and whatever new information is being brought into them in real time. This summer is the first time I've posted regularly here, but it's about time to go back to work so I guess I won't be around much after another week or so. I'll miss keeping up on who's getting who's goat. :)

4) I'd like to see posters discuss and debate topics more like they would face to face in the real world more often instead of resorting to name calling and flame baiting. And I'd like to see more of the sources for information coming from more legitimate, less biased and extremist, sites from both sides.

Every so often it happens that I regain my faith in humanity. As this simply cannot be, I come here and read what the numerous retarded lunatics have to say, and having been reassured that the world IS going to hell, I can go and have a good night's sleep.

I have discussions in here on an almost daily basis with dozens of posters. To assume a humorous response about a sterotypical character is specifically directed at yourself *is* egotistical, and shows quite a bit of insecurity as well. If anything, the poster who most diectly influenced that little overgeneralizing charicature was actually Steeplerot, to a degree - someone I actualy hold a bit of respect for due to the fact that he at least appears to be consistent in his beliefs, no matter how much they differ from mine or the "norm." But it was not at all directed at or about him, nor Pro, and it certainly had absolutely nothing to do with you (yet here you are.)

I find it the utter height of hillarity that I can post a single general response to this thread, and have people so self-righteous that they immediately come forth to sidetrack the discussion to be either about themselves or about me, when the truth is that neither you nor I are much of any importance to this place. The difference is that I seem to at least understand that little fact, when others appear to be in denial. If I were to mimic your little accusatory tactics, I could probably draw conclusions as to a lack of attention from those around you in your personal lives, which may be a factor in the constant strobing of your metaphorical " -> Hey everybody, look at me, me, me! <-" neon signs you guys seem to whip out in every P&N post - but I think I shall refrain from doing so.

The fact that you seem to feel that this place is a "waste of time" for you, but still stopped by, not to contribute to this thread in any meaniningful way, but rather to make comments solely an how you feel about me as a poster and to make personal comments as to what problems you think I may have IRL shows just how irrelevant and off-topic your "contributions" to P&N really are, IMO.

Now, did you have a response to the OP, or are we done here?

yeah, it's you who decides if a thread contribution is "meaningful".. lol.

given this thread is about what people like or dislike about P&N, it seems perfectly reasonable to me to comment on things I find tiresome, such as your nasty snarky little comments towards those with a left-leaning economic agenda.

My feeling is that the snarkiness you direct towards left-leaning individuals is bad form, tiresome, boring, pathetic, etc.

You do use individuals on this forum as a punching bag for working out your anger or aggression, & yes, I DO wonder at the interpersonal emotional and/ or social dysfunction that might lie behind the kinds of behaviors you demonstrate here.

My opinions on you or more specifically your behavior here are certainly not off-topic. Broadly speaking this is a thread about attitudes towards P&N. My responses to and opinions of people here, including you and your type, are obviously going to color my attitudes towards P&N to some extent and are relevant to this discussion, imo.

1) I came for the new Apple section, browsed the forum and opened an account because the user happened to discuss macs and Europe.
2) The variety of topics and users.
3) Getting an idea of Europe's image and insight into North American domestic policies to some extent, exercising a foreign language. And it's amusing, sometimes, too...
4) I seem to have the talent to jump late on threads and/or to finish discussions, but who could change that? ;)

Geez you play politics well dude, you should run for some sort of position in Texas man :)

Anyways I honestly thought you were talking about me. I wasn't being egotistical I'm just reacting to the typical response right wingers give to me when they see I respect European and Indian political systems and aspects of Socialism and Communism. They always say the exact same thing you do.

Call it reactionary or whatever, I think you would get angry as well when someone stereotypes a large group of people following a certain philosophy as being deadbeats.
