i kind of see where you are coming from, i hate being asked "how are you", which happens everytime i go to my part time job once a week, everytime i just say "good" and that is that.
But there is nothing wrong with saying Hi when you see each other, it's just courtesy. When i go to college, if i came in the room and me and my roomate just blanked each other, it'd be uncomfortable IMO, if you have to live with one another, then you want a pleasent atmosphere.
