I think hate is too strong a word for some faceless company that makes videogames.

I do despise many things they have done (Madden, Origin, C&C, etc.) and do very little business with them because of that.

lets see:

1. Banning on forums means loss of your games, even if you did nothing. example:

User 1 makes post, doesnt break rules, post is 100% legit and fine, such as "I love Mass Effect 1".

User 2 makes post "Fuck you User 1"

User 1 and User 2 both get banned by automatic forum software and User 1 looses all game linked to that forum account for doing absolutly nothing wrong.

Everyone should be condemning EA for this. Even the user who posted "fuck you", while maybe that might justify a FORUM ban, it is NOT a justification for stealing all that person's games.

Anyone who ignores this issue is like the Grey Council in Babylon 5: "The problems of others are not our concern".

They've bought up a few good studios and either produced subpar sequels of their franchises or just sat on them and not released anything at all. They've basically got a monopoly over the sports genre with their franchising rights and as a result put out $60 roster updates with a few minor gameplay changes each year. And then there's the whole forum banning = losing your games nonsense that, although would never effect me, is completely ridiculous.

I don't hate them. I just find them to be a company I will not purchase products from because I find their products not worth the money and I dislike their policies and method of conducting business.

edit: Won't buy until they're heavily discounted, I should say.

I havent played BF3 in about a month. I launch the game says "error, game not installed". Now it is downloading 3.9GBs. Where else can I find such incompetent crap?

They canceled Multiplayer Battletech 3025 back in 2001.
Despised them ever since.

Yeah, what they did to BF2 sucked.
BF3 kind of sucks
Pulling Madden off of the PC definitely sucks
Their advertising sucks (especially the Dante's Inferno thing)

I wouldn't say that I hate them, but I'm not fan either. Seeing the EA logo does make me hesitate and think a little more about my purchase.

This ^

I've got nothing against a business trying to make a profit, but when you have a bunch of pencil-pushing morons making stupid decisions and thinking they have to screw their customers to make a profit, that's when it gets annoying.

Yes, I love BF3, even with all it's shortcomings, such as no VOIP (which, being the type of game it is, is required), but that doesn't mean I have to like Origin or EA.

"but you're supporting them and telling them it's ok to do that stuff when you buy the game."

"but you're supporting them and telling them it's ok to do that stuff when you buy the game."

Very good point but IMO it applies more to people making idiot buys like buying C&C4 or simcity societies when that came out. No excuse for that with metacritic user reviews or amazon reviews or even forum opinions.

BF3 is done pretty well, excellent engine, good gameplay, all its problems can be fixed by patching as there's nothing majorly wrong with the game. A lot like the BF2 launch.

Treating EA like a dumb dog is what people should do, when it behaves and puts out something good like BF3 it gets a treat, when it shits all over the floor putting out all the other rubbish games people have mentioned previously you don't give it a bone... you rub its face in it and tell it NO! Bad dog! No $60 until you clean that fecking mess up!

Vehicle disabling, restrictive prone animations, meatgrinding gameplay with little flanking even on large maps, poor flight model(done to their design no doubt, I didn't mean poorly programmed), extreme weapon accuracy catering to twitch aim only, and so on. Those are all design decisions and exclude what will eventually be fixed by patches.

Good game for people who like that stuff but it's not designed for their historical/traditional BF players.

I don't hate them. But my dislike for them started with buying Trauma Studios including most of the devs from Desert Combat, an awesome mod for Battlefield 1942 that made it in current times. It was insanely popular, and EA knew it needed to go that direction. So they bought the devs and their company. Then just before BF2 was released, they closed down the New York office, which the former Trauma Studio devs worked at, on BF2. And didnt pay them the $200,000 they owed them, and agreed upon when buying them. Thats as shady as you can get imo. I was really into Desert Combat, and in many ways thought it was better than BF2. But of course I bought BF2 like everyone else, and did enjoy it a lot.

You can put a lot of blame on the NCAA/NFL/etc. for that too.

Edit: Anyone else see the irony in this thread when there is a sticky for BF3 that has 270k views?

Oh man i feel a rant coming on, ill just shorten it to a few points:

- Ruined C&C
- Ruined Dungeon keeper (they cancelled DK3 for a fecking harry potter game)
- They sit on intellectual property and do nothing with it! At least activision sold all their IP they weren't going to do anything with.
- Ruined Simcity
- Ruined Spore (it would have been better without EA's influence)

I dont think EA have actually put out any good games, they just buy developers with actual talent and milk them to the ground (mass effect and dead space and battlefield seem to be the exceptions).

are you kidding? ME2 was a FPS with some dialogue. and i only played the game once but it seemed like you had to buy the DLC because the max amount of money you got wasn't enough to buy up all the in game upgrades

Westwood: this covers the destruction of not 1 but 3 franchises (Red Alert, C&C & Dune)

Origin/Battlelog: Get this junk off the Battlefield series. I don;yt have too many issues with Origin but the setup to actually PLAY BF3 is garbage & even worse than CoD is crap.

Bioware: Dragon Age 2 is pretty much what happens when EA turns up.

Isn't there another large house like EA but that won't cause noobifications like DA2 when they buy a studio, that could be buying these studios instead?

I haven't read all the responses but i bought 5 sim games a few need for speed games and others as well, the sims would not install (bought at best buy) I called ea to see why they would not install or load. They told me my copies were pirated I had the receipt and store number I got them from my debit was used and they told me it wasn't their problem. I have never bought another EA game (knowingly) since. Best buy allowed an exchange (but it didn't help). So um No i will never waste my money on them again :)

I just finished ME2 a few days ago. I had no problem buying all the in game upgrades with the money I earned in the game. In fact, I ended up with a lot of cash left.....wish EA would have let me blow it on hookers at that hole in the wall on Omega (or high-class ones on Illium...I'd be ok with either). But I digress.......
