Why do you guys play a console instead of PC?

Seems the graphics would be worse. Gameplay being the same/worse is debatable.

I'm contemplating an Xbox 360 simply to game on my 61" tv.

Graphics are only slightly worse on console. Graphics are: Xbox < ps3 < PC but only by small margins. Consoles have more games and different types of games (like little big planet, gran turismo that will never come to PC) but most PC games come to console. The only benefit I see to PC is that you can get all games for free. I choose ps3 because it is cheaper than a PC.

I can sit on my couch, have friends over to play it, big tv, all the social aspects. That's all I'm into nowadays, PC gaming in the old days involved me huddled in front of my monitor late at night and getting lost in a 15" CRT dreamworld. Just lost interest in that.
Gaming is gaming though, give it a try, rent a system and see if the pros outweigh the cons for you.

I do both. RTS, MMO and FPS on PC. Those genres are absolutely LAUGHABLE on consoles.

I think you just hit the primary reason. Other reasons:

1) I work at a PC all day already. I'd rather sit on a comfy couch.
2) I grew tired of keeping up with the PC upgrade carousel.
3) Console gaming is good for gaming in short bursts. I don't have the time I used to to game.
4) Better game selection for 'social' gaming in the same room.
5) More games I can play with my kids.

1. Consoles are cheaper than PCs. For the cost of a good gaming PC, I can buy all three major consoles.
2. IMHO, better game selection - there are some console genres that basically don't exist on the PC.
3. Local multiplayer experience.
4. Plug-and-play. I don't need another system to administrate.

That said, there are some things a PC does better - but there's always trade-offs in life.

It just works. I don't have to worry about driver problems. I just turn the system on and play the game.

I have both, and buy games for both.

I buy for the platform that a game is best on, for example I can run Mass Effect buttery-smooth at 1600x1200 on my PC with improved inventory and better driving controls. Choosing Fallout 3 on the PC is a no-brainer for the mods.

Meanwhile, I picked up Dark Sector for $20 for my PS3 and am having fun mowing down enemies with the Krull glaive. I'm also catching up on my PS2 JRPGs after missing pretty much all of them while I was a PC gamer.

I'm contemplating an Xbox 360 simply to game on my 61" tv.
PS3 + Netflix = blu-ray goodness.

I already have stand alone HD-DVD and Blu-ray players. SO that wouldn't factor into my decision.

i got into consoles because sports games had become hard to get on the PC, baseball in general although i believe Madden no longer is brought to the PC.

Other benefits are being able to sit back and relax while gaming, on a whole games seem to be alot more stable and you don't have to buy a game that only takes 8 hours to beat. (I'm referring to renting games, please don't use piracy as an excuse as this in my mind is the reason PC gaming has taken such a hit in recent years).

For the record i have a gaming PC (8800GTS Q6600 4GB ram etc.) A Ps3 and a xbox 360.

I have the Wii because it offers something that the PC doesn't offer by far.

I have my PC hooked up to my HDTV to still satisfy PC gaming on a big screen TV. But as of late, the last few types of PC games I played are FFXI, tried TF2, and Half Life 2.

All of which is quite nice. Other things to consider is that my seating arrangement for my living room is about on the level with the coffee table I have, making use of a surface for the optical mouse very feasible. For FFXI, i had a controller for use with it, but broke the D pad.

I have no need for a 360/PS3 at the moment.

"Why do you guys play a console instead of PC?"

Because I sit in front of a computer for 8 hours at work. Once I got rid of my WoW addiction, I stopped playing on my PC. Next game I probably play on a PC will be Diablo 3.

I think we're clones :Q Though I do play a bit on my PC, Warhead and HoMM V for the most part.

So I play on my Xbox360 cause I can just relax on the couch :) And for the games I play a pad feels very natural to use for controls :)

That is one of my big beefs with a few of my cross platform titles. I bought fear for the PS3 and it only saves via checkpoints while people on the PC have anytime saves and can stop whenever they want and not worry about losing their position:(

Who says you have to play one or the other?

If you already have a gaming PC, you can simply get a DVI to HDMI adapter and plug your gaming PC into that TV. Your motherboard might have a digital coax port, if not you can find a sound card or breakout cable for your motherboard that will provide it. Games for Windows titles (and others) will allow you to use a 360 controller on the PC. A cheaper alternative to consider if you already have a gaming PC with a significant library.

You can relax on your comfy couch and play PC games on your 61" tv and HT audio system:)

Why would it be worse? The controls? Keyboard and mouse are better for FPS, RTS, maybe a few other genres. Only RTS is really difficult to port to consoles. And many of us who play consoles FPSes actually prefer to play on consoles. The controls aren't that bad, it's easy to get used to. Console is really the way to go for sports games. And if you like JRPGs you gotta go with a console.

This.

There has not been a MLB licensed PC game in 4 years.

That, and my addition to Rock Band/Guitar Hero for makes a 360 a necessity.

It is common knowledge that many games are dumbed down for consoles. Look how many PC sequels are ruined when they are simplified so console users can play them.

Really? Which ones? I guess RTSs get simplified control schemes, what else? I'd love to see PC gamers tackle something like Ninja Gaiden though, given how retardedly easy PC games are, they probably couldn't take it. Of course, that has nothing to do with control schemes, just lousy skills.

Look how many PC sequels are ruined when they are simplified so console users can play them.

Like what? Let's get some examples going here. I have hundreds of PC titles and console titles, owned almost every gaming platform ever, please point out these games. Feel free to list exacting examples too. Elder Scrolls saw a fairly huge improvement in quality although the games became far more difficult to actually play through when consoles became a priority(ES:3 took all of what, an hour to make yourself a god?).

I guess if you are into the aim assisted style shooting for FPSs, PCs work nice, mouse/kb isn't quite as nub as a controller, but nothing like actually having to aim. I was a big fan of kb/m for shooters until I tried the Wii- actually have to aim>>>>>>>>>>>>mouse.

Racing games on the PC overall are a tragedy, they can't come close to the consoles offerings on... well..... anything. Even the 'strong' PC category, sims, aren't remotely close to an actual simulator(I own a few of the cars that some of the 'best' PC sims have used, and they aren't remotely close to right on handling dynamics, looks like they read a magazine article and guessed).

Sports games, hehe, yeah right.

Face to face social games- errr, I guess the die hard PC crowd wouldn't really have any need for that whatsoever- they don't do that human interaction thing.

Adventure titles- yeah, 20 years ago the PC did OK here. Lately? Sorry, consoles utterly obliterate PCs.

Fighting games- uhm, did the PC ever really have any? I know, requires reflexes way too fast for the typical PC gamer, 1/100th of a second reflexes may get you into a pre school tourney, if you are lucky. PC gamers have trouble realizing how 10ms ping would completely ruin a good fighting game, they just don't understand that that is a lifetime to a skilled gamer.

RPGs- Yeah, PCs have the 2 big MMOs worth playing- everything else is either on both or only on the consoles. Overall, consoles are the better platform for the genre(I am more then happy to hear of exceptions to this- even Fallout has crossed over).

Action games- the PC tries hard, almost good enough for a medal..... if this were the special olympics.

RTSs is the one place where I would say that PCs have a very clearly defined edge. Every other genre the consoles are comparable if not obscenely better then the PC. Like I said though, I have multiple games libraries, feel free to cite specific examples as to why what you say is true about PC gaming.

The main reason I switched to an xbox 360 is that I got tired of chasing technology on my PC. I was constantly upgrading my PC to play the next game coming out, and it was too expensive and time consuming. I spent more time getting my computer right than I did playing the games it seemed like. I work on computers all day at work, I don't want to do that when I come home too.

i disagree with your graphics comparison. i would say it's the following...

PC > Xbox360 = PS3 > PC

I can tell you that any game on Xbox360 and PS3 will look 100x better than any game on my PC. And no need to tell me that i CAN get better graphics on my PC if I upgrade because I already know that, but I'm not going to do it. But on someone elses PC, games may look better than on Xbox360 and PS3.

And to say PS3 > Xbox360 is flat out wrong. There are multiple multiplatform games that run better on Xbox360 thxn PS3, and there are also some games that look better on PS3 than Xbox360. They are virtually identical at this point as far as graphics go, and IMO, I'd still say that Gears of War is the best looking current gen game, with it's sequel to steal that title.

I personally game on console exclusively now and used to game on PC, but my reasons are pretty much the same as most people in here.
