Personally, I only do it for keyboard/mouse support and graphics as just cherry on top. I can't play at ALL with analog sticks and console controllers. When/If consoles get keyboard and mouse support, I will definitely be jumping over.

Lemme know when I can just turn on a PS3 and play Starcraft 2. Or a Bethesda game with mods.

The only difference between a modern computer and a gaming rig is the video card, and you can play just about any game with a $150-$200 card. In other words, PC gaming doesn't cost $1,000. By that logic, you need to include TV costs into console gaming.

Very true. The PC is everything else and gaming. Requirement for gaming is mostly just a good GPU.

This thread is just 4 pages long, way too short for "Troll And Run 2011" award.

your using a browser that has time traveled back into the past.
yeah, don't do that. time traveling is bad, you could screw up page 3 and 4.

Actually, my browser traveled to the future. A page 2 post appeared on page 4, not the other way around. So technically there's no issue then

I game on my PC currently about ten times as much as on my consoles, and I use my consoles more. There is a borderline obscene amount of ignorance in this thread- this is a PC gaming oriented sub forum so understandably it seems to come almost exclusively from the PC side.

The 8800GTS 640MB came out 3 days before the PS3 for 2/3 the price. It massively outperforms it.

Not even remotely close. People who game cross platform read stuff like this and it just makes PC users look really ignorant. You can very easily and honestly point to the huge advantage current PC GPUs have over the consoles, but the staggering performance difference that fixed hardware has over PCs easily eclipses the relatively small gap between the 8800GTS and the PS3.

http://cdn2.digitaltrends.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/12/GT5-pic-4.jpg

I have a rig here running a 250GTS- it can't come close to that. Yes, I know what a high end PC can push, but when you pull out a statement that's total BS like that, it makes it seem like your side of debate has no merit.

The important thing to remember here is that PC does not force you to use mouse and keyboard. PC lets you play with mouse/keyboard OR console controller, your choice... almost everyone chooses mouse/keyboard for a reason.

PS3 can use mouse/keyboard too, and almost everyone chooses controllers for a reason. One platform is meant to played at a desk, the other on a couch.

OMFG I would totally pwn some console noobs in shooters and even some other games.

Shooters or RTSs, the console 'kids' would violently sodomize you if you fired up SF4 using the good ol keyboard and mouse, or The Show, or anything like Unchartered, or and racing game, or any rhythm game, actually pretty much every game that doesn't fall under shooter, RTS or MMO. I know you didn't do it in your post, but the continued trash talk about how mouse and keyboard is a superior input device just paints a very clear picture of what you people who are stating are- at best casual gamers who happen to be big into shooters. One of the guys I work with is globally one of the top 1K COD players on Live!- anyone who plays on that platform understands what that entails. He doesn't consider himself a 'gamer', he is more realistic about what he is about and it isn't 'gaming'- it's shooters.

For example Mass Effect and Dragon Age were so much easier on the PC that the developers cracked the difficulty way up on the PC version.

Go play DAO on the highest difficulty setting then play Demon's Souls on default. PC games are stupid easy. PC games seem to demand this and whine horribly if they aren't(*I can't save anywhere*).

"Can't Mod Games"- LBP and MNR come quickly to mind. You can do this on the consoles, Sony at least encourages supporting it very heavily- just most developers don't. This is certainly something the PC developers have done a better job of supporting- but it not only can, but is done on the consoles also.

"Console games are too expensive, they need something like Steam"

This one is rather comical honestly. How about, Steam?

https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=5477-WPJM-9388

PSN and XBoxLive both offer a very large selection of games that you can buy for $5-$20 using digital download just like the PC. Unlike the PC, with PSN at least there are a large selection of games you can buy from the mid 90s that work without technical issue on the PS3(well, to be fair, if you have a Win98 machine I suppose they would work).

"Consoles only do one thing"

This is the argument that I get the biggest kick out. I mentioned at the beginning of my post that I do almost all of my gaming on the PC at this point, but use my consoles far more. Right now I have a movie going that I'm watching in my room(BRD on PS3), the wife is in the living room streaming Hulu over another console, the younger kids are watching Dora via Netflix over another console and my older kids are browsing a bunch of odd YouTube movies on yet another console. Are PCs more flexible? Absolutely. When you state that consoles can only be used for games, particularly in this day and age, you make yourself looke like a backwood idiot that has no clue what you are talking about. Pretty much, you make PC gamers look worse then they should.

You embarass those of us that do like to game on the PC. There are a lot of legit points that you can bring up as to why gaming on the PC has advantages, unfortunately the people in this thread don't really seem capable of it. In reality, if you are a gamer, you wouldn't limit your options. If you do, your just a platform bigot no matter how you try to spin it to yourself.

I have a ps3 too. Barely gets turned on. The only reason I keep it is because of BR 3D playback. That's it. I have a pc hooked up to the same tv so it handles the tv tuner and recording shows, and netflix streaming, etc.. So IMO yes consoles are worthless.

I play games on consoles and PC. There are many great exclusive console games that I love and many great games I'd prefer to play on PC like BF3. I don't care what platform it's on, if it's a good game I'll play it. Most of the time I'll choose to play it on PC because of the graphic fidelity I can get on it compared to a console but many times I'll choose to get the game on console instead so I can play with friends since I don't know anyone in real life who has a gaming PC but everyone I know has a console.

This!

I am getting Batman Arkham City on PC even though it's already out on 360 and PS3. I got BF3 for PC, I also have played Assassin's Creed on PS3 the whole time so I kept it going. Plus I can let my friend borrow some games as I finish them for PS3 or 360. Not so with PC.

For me it was cheaper to add a $150 video card to my computer that I already had than go buy a console and HDTV. Not to mention most games that are console and PC look like absolute low quality blocky garbage on 360 vs PC.

it's pretty insane what PC gamers spend just on video cards. a video card can cost the same or more than an entire PS3/360. all these $1,000+ rigs, all the questions and research on cooling, power consumption, SSD, and so on, when you can just buy a PS3 for $250...

A PS3 may be $250 now that it is almost obsolete, and a new model is being developed, but when it came out they were $500 or $600. That's more than the cost of my video card. That's as much as my last two video cards.

I'd own a decent PC even if I didn't game, so the only extra cost is the price of a video card. A good video card can be had for less than the cost of a console, and your games will look much better on a PC than on a console.

There's also dedicated servers. Once you played on dedicated servers I don't see how you could ever go back to playing shooters on a console. No host advantage is also a major point.

Have you compared what even a $170 HD 6870 can do compared to a PS3? There's no comparison. PS3 graphics are low resolution, inferior texture quality, little to no AA, and at a lower frame rate.

How can justify spending an extra $10 to $20 on games for a PS3, when they look so much better on a PC? How can you justify paying for extra content with those ugly console graphics, when you can get so many free mods with PC games. Have you seen the STEAM deals they run; PC gaming can be cheap if you want it to be. When you game on a console you are paying more for a lower quality product. All the games I ran on my old PC, still work on my new PC. You can't say that about your PS3.

As many games as I've bought, and as many mods as I've played, it would cost more for me to game on a console.

Consoles don't have the strategy games, simulators, and until recently lacked indie games also. Consoles have less options and customizations.

Besides a controller is absolute shit, compared to a mouse and keyboard.

Because console gaming sucks.
Why would I?

Let's see, maybe you want to play games with a great storyline/long and satisfying single-player champaign and are simply fun to play? Not everything is about the best graphics, 16x Anti-aliasing, 2560x1600 resolution. What are the top ranked games in 2011 thus far?

Gamespot
1. Dark Souls - 9.5 (PS3/360)
2. Gear of War 3 - 9.5 (360)
3. Super Meat Boy - 9.5 (PC)
4. Uncharted 3 - 9.0 (PS3)
5. Batman: Arkham City - 9.0 (PS3/360/PC)

IGN
1. Uncharted 3 - 10.0 (PS3)
2. Chrono Trigger - 10.0 (Wii)
3. Batman: Arkham City - 9.5 (PS3/360/PC)
4. Portal 2 - 9.5 (PS3/PC/360)
5. Forza 4 - 9.5 (360)
6. Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time 3D - 9.5 (3DS)
7. Final Fantasy III - 9.5 (Wii)
8. NBA 2K12 - 9.5 (PS3)
9. Fifa Soccer 12 - 9.5 (PS3/360)
10. The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening DX (3DS)

^ Looks to me the best *ranked* games are on consoles. :sneaky:

PC is great for FPS, strategy, Massively online multiplayer, role-playing, flight sims and some racing games. But for sports, fighting games, platform/fantasy adventure games, the best racing games, etc. consoles destroy PCs.

If you care more for what are historically stronger PC genres (FPS, strategy and massively online multi-player games) then sure, PC is where it's at. But if you love gaming as a whole, PC doesn't cut it by itself. You are missing out on some amazing games such as God of War series, Uncharted series, Gears of War series, Metal Gear Solid series, Forza series, Gran Turismo, Zelda, etc.

I've been gaming since 7 years old and I'd take Zelda over any Battlefield or COD game ever made; I don't care if people tell me those are "kiddie" games. I want a 50-60 hour single-player campaign which BF3 doesn't have!! And other people might strictly play on-line games and could care less about single player. And yet others might primarily care for single player FPS games. I know a friend who only plays 3rd person adventure games like Uncharted and hates FPS games. All of these are unique personal preferences for a gamer.

But please don't say "console gaming sucks" because you come off as very ignorant or simply don't appreciate video games as an art form. Super Mario 64, Zelda, Chrono Trigger, Gran Turismo, Goldeneye, etc. A lot of these games created the foundation for many generations of future games to come - or at least served as a benchmark for their respective genres.

At this point to me, if I had to choose just 1 gaming platform, it would undoubtedly have to be a console. It has a more well-rounded selection of games and its fair share of exclusives. On the other hand, PC has far fewer exclusives. However, I enjoy certain genres on the PC and others on the consoles. That's why I game on both.

Also, PC = lonely gaming platform. Console = social gaming. End of story. Sometimes, I'd rather play a game of Call Duty over some beers with buddies. But if you don't have many friends, then you may never truly understand the fun of pawning 3 of your buddies in the same room in a death match. PC gaming cannot deliver this type of experience on a budget unless you have a huge LAN party in someone's basement. A major appeal of consoles is that you can get together with 3-5 friends and have an awesome gaming night. At that point, the last thing I care about is graphics.

Could not care less about gamespot or IGN reviewer's opinions.

For me, Starcraft 2 and Shogun 2 (PC exclusive) has been the best games in 2011.. now that title goes to BF3.

Do you know gamespot drop the score on BF3 because "its SP is too serious" and "cliche". Really, people who buy BF series gives a shit about SP when??

Starcraft 2 is not a 2011 game ... just saying ;)

I care about single player FPS game more than multiplayer. That's why I am not particularly interested in BF3. I would never give BF3 anything above a 6.0 since its single player campaign is average. But someone who loves online shooters would give this game 9.5+. I understand their opinion. Personally, I'd rather play Rage or SKYRIM than BF3 despite both being inferior technically to BF3 on every level.

Dismissing IGN and Gamespot? People who dedicated their lives in this entertainment industry play 100s of games a year across various platforms. They sit down and vote. Across many gaming review websites (I just listed 2), every single year, there are tons of awesome console games that get 9.0 or above. Also, like I said, if you love Starcraft 2 and Shogun 2 over Uncharted series or Gears of War series, that's your personal preference. I love Starcraft 1/2 as well, which is one of the reasons I still play on PC. But if I want to play something like Uncharted on the PC, what am I supposed to buy? Oh that's right - NOTHING! If I want to play a racing game like Gran Turismo, what am I supposed to buy on the PC? - Nothing again. Sure we have Dirt series, but I can play that on a console too.

The point is, as an all-round platform, PC is not better. Yes, it's stronger in FPS, strategy and massively online games, but it has major gaps in other genres. A lot of PC gamers don't really play those other genres, which is understandable why they might prefer PCs over consoles. To it's not black and white. I'd rather play on both.

I don't see the reason to choose..

I buy my sports, fighters, hack and slash type games on the console where the controller shines.

Exactly. To me there is no difference between a console and a PC fanboi. They will both argue that one is better than the other. To me, I am a fanboi of gaming, not platforms. So until 1 platform can deliver the best of all the genres I play, I am not picking just 1.

Since RTS doesn't exist on consoles and FPS is retarded with a gamepad, PC is the only real option for serious gaming.

If all you play are RTS and FPS games, of course PC is the best platform!! But your statement implies that people who play other genres such as racing games, 3D platform/adventure games, 3rd person action games, fighting games are not serious gamers? That's interesting. I didn't know that the dictionary defined a "serious gamer" as someone who plays RTS / FPS games.
