Facts:
Windows 2000 is .......NT 5.0
Windows XP will be ....NT 5.1
Blackcomb will be .....NT 6.0
While M$ makes money it wants to profit off all those people who never upgrade from Windows 95. There thinking is that they can making money off the software even if you don't upgrade. From a business view it's a good one, from a consumer view it's payment without end.
Facts revised a little:
Windows XP will finally be the convergence of the separate product lines (nt & 9x). XP will be available in 3 flavors - home, pro, and advanced server. Pro will be for most power users, home is obvious, and server for all the corporate servers..
I have run home and pro, personally I like the interface, except its gonna be he11 for tech support.. Specially considering it doesn't place a my computer icon on the desktop.. and mosttech agents know how much you use this.. its located in the start menu on XP.. however, if you turn off the fluff, does anyone know if it shows the my puter icon on the desktop then???
Umm, as for blackcomb, it is not a new version of windows. If you check out microsofts research and development site, you will find it is only a graphical interface, and not a new version of windows... blackcomb might be used in a new version in the future, but it will probably be just windows xp with a new look..
anyways, enough from me...
edit: PS: you know, I did like the new icons and the new look for the UI though.. And the way the my computer window is shown all organized like it is will help a lot of the people i do support for.. heh
