I'm a condiment whore. I like everything on sandwiches except piss and maggots. Now I'm hungry.

Hmm sandwiches are evil... but if one must have one all that is every needed is non junk meat, some type of cheese, and bacon... since bacon makes everything better. :p

There is no room in that for other things that just ruin everything.

Exceptions may be made for peppers and onions for certian types of sandwiches however.

Depends on the sandwich. Cheese steak? No, though I know people who do.

Hero? Hell yes. Tomatoes too.

OK, listen up. The thing that makes great sandwiches is veggies because, they give different textures, colors and, lighter flavors which enhance the meats and cheeses.

Da Chef has spoken.
So, let it be written.
So, let it be done.

The difference between food and cuisine is the discussion. This county has lost a lot of it's cuisine over the last 40 years because attitudes like this. :'(

Bwahahaha. A bit of an overreaction there.

I left out BLTs. I love BLTs, and I'm ashamed for having forgotten them.

The sandwich that prompted this thread was an egg salad sandwich with leaf lettuce. It just wasn't cutting it. And, to further sour my mood, my chips were slightly stale. The only redeeming quality of the whole meal was my cool, smooth bottle of Mexican coke.

My reply was not to you... it was to the person I quoted...

I prefer spinach. It's 100x more nutritional than lettuce and invisible to taste. I've never liked lettuce, for me it just overpowers the food with a bland bitter taste.

Agreed, pickles don't belong on sandwiches or hamburgers.

You lie. I offer expert testimony...

"Cheeseburger in paradise (paradise)
Medium rare with mustard 'be nice (paradise)
Heaven on earth with an onion slice (paradise)
I'm just a cheeseburger in paradise

I like mine with lettuce and tomato
Heinz 57 and french fried potatoes
Big kosher pickle and a cold draft beer
Well good god almighty which way do I steer for my Cheeseburger in paradise."

Ever hear of something called TEXTURE? Lettuce changes it. Iceberg adds "crisp and cool" while shredded adds... something else.

Anyway, it may shock you to realize that a lot of toppings are done for texture more than taste, including mayo (dresses up an otherwise "dry" sandwich).

Forget the lettuce. If you want that crisp mouth feel as you bite into the sandwich just put a couple nacho Doritos on there. Doritos taste great with yellow mustard too!

its there to give the false impression of healthy balance..lettuce..doesn't have much nutrition, let alone a single leaf.

It's not like there's no nutrition value. Eat romaine or watercress as they're more nutritional than iceberg. All leafy stuff also helps your digestive system.
