Because humans no longer believe in survival of the fittest when it applies to humans.

Hmm I wonder if the rich ever ask about paying much more taxes than the middle/lower classes... I wonder if it's voluntary...

I don't follow what you are saying? What does this have to do with survival of the fittest?

I think theoretically it's so they don't break into your house while you're working and steal your stuff, or mug you in the street.

Convince me of why it's necessary for you to post your trolling "Convince me..." threads when there's nothing that will you convince you to change your mind?

All the time. I don't blame them. Consumption tax would be much more appropriate than income. Income is something that should be encouraged not punished in a capitalist country.

In theory they are great programs. In practice they were poorly implemented and are way to easy to abuse.
If you loose your job out of the blue one day you'll be glad these programs exist. The problem is that it is possible for people to spend their entire lives living off of these programs.

You aren't paying for unemployment directly. Employers have to pay that.

Welfare and food stamps are more about children. You are paying for the survival of children who haven't really done much to deserve their predicament.

do we need them? yes. but it needs a overhaul.

i have friends who worked for chrysler in IL. they know they were going to lose there job. NOT one of them put anything away because they know they were going to get 6 months unemployment. many were looking into ways of extending it (guess if they lay off a large percent and you go to school its extended to 2 years). they all signed up for foodstamps and such also.

personally i think none of them should have got it.

another one is my SIL. she has her "husband" (she tells everyone he is but they have yet to get married) living with her. she is on welfare, food stamps, etc. the guy claims he makes 5k a month.

if i could turn her in without them knowing it was me i would.

Well I would argue that the lack of government support would encourage more grassroots non profit support.

Employers pay Unemployment Insurance and that isnt what i would call Welfare.

TANF (Temporary Assistance for Needy Faimilies) cases have been on a decline since 1999 due to Personal Responsibility Act of 1998. Look up the stats for your area,Texas is has cut its significantly, by half off the top of my head.

I would rather people get food stamps than litter the streets begging, starving like in other countries.

Yes, because everybody never gets sick, has a life time guaranteed job and a million dollars in the bank for retirement...

How much did they end up getting? Normal unemployment wouldn't be enough for me to live off of without saving. It's only a fraction of your pay. But I've not heard about the ways to increase/extend it.

Again I fail to see why that should become involuntarily my problem? Plenty of people in the world come up by working for what they want. I don't see the need to make so many exceptions.

one of them were makeing like $1600 a month. for this area its far more then enough to live on. (and yes thats like half of what they make).

from what they were saying you can extend it IF they lay off 2/3 of the shift and you go to school.

but not sure i havent looked it because i really didnt care heh

How are they unfit exactly? By whose standards? Invalids? Cripples? Ok sure. But everyone else?

I've been to 3rd world countries where they don't have social programs.....people are not dying of starvation ......they find a way to contribute to society and make a living. Even elderly make crafts or trinkets to sell. They find a way because they have motivation. Not dying of starvation is a great motivation.

I'm sure anyone on welfare can get the same jobs these immigrants are hustling to get. But they don't. Why should they.
