I love my Jetta. I hate my Jetta.
I bought it Certified Pre-Owned with 25,000 miles on it - a silver badass lookin' 1.8T, black leather seats, sunroof, 17in alloys. And this is not a joke; as I was driving it off the LOT on the night I bought it, the water pump failed, the check engine light came on, and one of the cooling fans failed. I was still in the freakin' dealer parking lot! We pushed it back in to the service bay and they gave me a loaner to drive home. They fixed everything the next day and replaced both fans for good measure.
Ok, so not such a good first impression. 1 week later the CEL comes on AGAIN. Not a big deal, I ran some injection cleaner in the next tank and cleaned up the carbon deposits. CEL cleared within an hour.
Happy happy, love the car, get to about 6 months later, CEL. Need a tune-up. Ok ok, this is normal maintenance, no biggie, I get the tune-up. Car runs great. I'm just loving it.
6 months later, I'm driving home from the beach and the alternator dies. And because of that, the battery dies 10 minutes later. Other than being stranded for 2 hours, it's all good, all the work is covered with the warranty. I do buy a new battery, though.
Enter 4 weeks ago. Happy happy driving home from work on a Friday night, and boom! CEL comes on. W T F!
So the coolant had been compromised, someone poured regular anti-freeze in with the G12 and rotted the guts out. The reservoir was destroyed, there's multiple oil leaks, a strut mount had broken off, etc etc, etc a whole LIST of things.....WTF?
"We can get all this done for ya by tomorrow, it'll run ya about $2,050."
"HAVE YOU LOST YOUR MIND?!?!"
-calm down-
"uhh, yeah, shouldn't most of that be covered under the BUMPER TO BUMPER WARRANTY?"
"Let me check.....yes, but you also need a brake flush, a coolant flush, a tranny flush, and we strongly recommend blah BLAH BLAH DA FREAKITY BLAH."
So they took care of the CEL, and we scheduled a time for me to come and get the rest of the warrantied work done. Next Tuesday? Sounds good.
I take it in Tuesday and they apparently LOST the work order. So the tech "tries" to find all the things they originally found wrong with it, BEFORE they found out it was covered under the warranty.
So who knows what is still broken, and I have 1,000 miles left till the 2 year or 26k mile CPO warranty is up. And guess what then?
Yeah, I can't afford the maintenance on this car, and I still owe 3 1/2 years on it!
I love my Jetta. I hate my Jetta
And I strongly advise anyone in here to NOT buy a Jetta or any other VW for that matter. The Taureg's are the some of the worst. Jetta's are up there, GTI's are up there.
I love my car, though. Really do. God it's so fun to drive.
