you should do whatever you feel is right

No you shouldn't. You should do EXACTLY what the Christian Brotherhood of Anandtech tells you to do...otherwise, you go straight to hell. I mean, it's common knowledge that the devout church-goers that frequent this forum are the official spokespeople for Jesus Christ and the other 2/3 of the Trinity. They are so hooked up with Jesus, in fact, that they've decided that EVERYONE should obey the bible, not just Christians. That means that Buddhists, Muslims, Hindus, etc. are all sinners if they do ANYTHING that is inconsistent with the teachings of Christ and Pals. Sex before marriage?? OMFG!!! Don't post what you did on AT - otherwise, you will be struck down with GREAT VENGEANCE AND FUUUUUUUUUURIOUS ANGER!! Don't say I didn't warn you, my brother.

That's right. Everybody should follow the Christian-way. Stem-cell research? HELL NO! I says right here in Ezekiel 25:17 that it's 100% immoral. Never mind the fact that millions of lives could be saved with the potential for rejection-free heart/lung/liver transplants, millions of quadrilplegics might be able to walk again with regenerated spinal cords. Nope. Everybody must suffer because the Christians say so.
Abortion?? HELL NO!!! Those 32-cell blastulas are HUMANS!!! Never mind the fact that there are hundreds of thousands of unwanted children out there...and how many Christians on Anandtech have adopted children?? HA!! It's fun to create problems for others as long as you don't have to deal with the consequences yourself.

But I digress. The bottom line is, nobody here is allowed to have sex before marriage. To do so would break the divine law of Jeebus. Furthermore, if the Christians have to sit at home and whack off every night, it's not fair that you can go out and fool around with your SO. It's just not fair.

See, what's funny, is that while you make assumptions about those of us who follow religion being pushy and forcing people to do what you claim the bible is telling us to do, you are being a bigger ASS by completely and rudely insulting us for choosing to do what we want.

Show me exactly where in my post I've insulted you for "choosing to do what we want." Anybody with the reading comprehension of a 6 year old could tell you that my overall message was patently obvious: that I have a problem when Christians overstep just practicing their OWN religion and attempt to force their beliefs and rules upon EVERYONE. Unfortunately, you are used to reading ordinary passages and creating wacky stories about them (i.e. interpreting the bible), so I can understand if you are not able to comprehend ordinary English without throwing in interpretations that don't exist.

I don't give a crap if you are an athiest,

Of course you do. You have been divinely commanded to convert every non-Christian being into a god-fearing Jesus worshipper. If you do not attempt to convert me NOW, then all of your good deeds and Christianness will be in vain, because you will be damned to hell for disobeying your duties. Next time, pay attention in Sunday School.

You are the ultimate hypocrite. While you chastize us for telling people about our beliefs, you make up some crap about being offending about us shoving it down your throat

"Some crap??" I have provided SPECIFIC examples to support my assertions. All you seem to offer is emotional tirades with absolutely no basis an no support. Furthermore, your language is hostile and inconsistent with the Christian teaching to love others, even your enemies. Who's the "ultimate hypocrite" now, hmmmmm?

I can't wait for the day when the mods finally realize that you have NOTHING beneficial to contribute to this forum and ban you for life so that we can all enjoy ourselves without you bringing in your preaching the wonders of hating the world for trying to live the way they want to. Shut up and get over yourself.

To all you other folks out there, what are your main reasons of staying a virgin until marriage?

EDIT: Is it true that having sex as a Christian b4 marriage isn't sinful?? I'm sort of confused on this topic now.

Let me preface this by saying I am not a Christian and do not feel compelled to obey any rules because of religious beliefs. I am far from a virign and I am not married. I did wait till college though to lose my virginity. It wasn't out of a religious belief as much as a social feeling that it was something special to for marriage later down the road. I changed my mind in college when I decided it wasn't that special...and I don't regret it one bit.

Yeah if you bought a Civic or something... but do you really need to test drive a Corvette.
When you find that woman you know. You know you know well because you know.

My wife and I first had sex in a corvette; believe me, the civic is more comfortable.

without having read this thread, other than the initial post:

I waited till I got married to have sex... I was 22. 🙂 It can be done.

OMG, take an English class.

These people don't "wait to be virigins"... they ARE virgins and they wait to LOSE their virginity. How could anyone "wait to be a virgin?" That doesn't even make sense.

LOL... I was thinking the same thing... I thought this thread was gonna be along the lines of, "before we got married my wife was a slut, now that we're married she doesn't want to have sex."

Well, I "test drove" quite a few, from flashy sports cars to conservative economy models. Got my learner's permit with a comfortable import hatchback, but didn't marry him--we were young and just best friends (still are). Didn't marry the Corvette either, he was too high-maintenance (but boy, was that a fast, fun ride!) Didn't marry the exotic Japanese sedan, he was just going in the opposite direction from where I was headed. I've loved many cars, took a few more out for a spin, but when my pickup truck came along, I ended up marrying the country boy engineer (and it only took a few months, we did just "know".) Did I really need to test drive the Corvette? Oh, yes. No question.

Religion is no excuse to not have sex.

God made you too. I suggest following his rules for a happy life... (and afterlife)

Uh huh. And which version of God are you talking about?

I am talking about the one and only God. You know, the one who created everything?

God
YIKE!
My eyes!

uhh...what religion/denomonation is that belief? Jesus was raped? and the bible is full of holes? i suggest you read the bible and have some facts b4 you make ignorant comments like that...
I could be wrong because I haven?t look at the bible for over 15 years. Jesus wasn?t raped, but he is a bastard son whom 12 year old mother was raped & betrothed to a 40 year old carpenter. Don?t tell me that they know how to use a turkey baster or cloning 2000 year ago, or you truly believe that the girl Mary actually had a baby with out having intercourse. If you do then I have a bridge that you can purchase.

sex is a God-given gift to mankind reserved especially for marraige...any other place is wrong
If this is true then you are lowering the human development into a pure state of propagation like the rest of the animal?.there is no joy or fun in sex?then what is the point doing it at all when it is expensive to have children & they might get into drugs/jail.

plus....a God "spouting" man would not sodomize children and beat his wife because those are not qualities of Christians....
Don?t you read or listen to the news?
Of course those reporters are liar & the priests are just spanking the boys for misbehaving.

It is not to say people with out religion don?t do the above, but religion is nothing have to do with having sex.
For a person of faith, everything is related to their faith. There is no way around it.
I could be wrong but I don't believe the old testament said anything regard sex before marriage...could it be misconstrued some where in the translation when they created the new testament?

And, Marry the virgin isn?t a virgin she was raped soon after betrothal at the age of 12....what I'm saying that the bible is full of holes.
It would be impossible to create a book about everything, so obviously there will be some blanks that need to be filled in, but that is where faith and divine guidance comes into play. The important part is not what is missing, but what is actually written in there.
1. You are agreeing with me that the bible is created/written by man therefore it is not divine, because God can easily create a book that contain/pertain to everything.
2. You are agreeing that there are blanks that "need to be filled in" or can be misconstrued to fit one need or cult/religion purpose.
3. I don't see what "faith" has to do with sex b4 marriage. To me faith is to believe with out doubt therefore a person that truly believe wouldn't need to spout there ideal to others. Because, they are happy with their knowledge instead of trying to convince or condemn others...so they could suppress their insecurity/questioning of they faith.

as a Christian was only going to marry someone who shared my beliefs, and you should be able to see why. Would YOU marry a devout Christian? (Let's ignore the fact that a devout Christian would not marry you in your current spiritual state.) I bet your answer is a resounding no. It would be impossible for the two of you to make decisions together even about minor issues because of the huge difference in priorities. Is it unreasonable, then, for a Christian to want to marry someone who shares their faith?
Good luck of finding one that would marry you. You have just narrowed your field to minuscule denomination.
1. How many girls are there here ATOT compare to geek guys?
2. How many girls are there here ATOT that are bible thumblers?

WRXFanatic & Palek
Keep telling yourself the things that you are spouting and the only thing that you ever see is the backside of a hooker or your greasy palm.

Thread Title should be: "Why do some people want to be VIRGINS until they marry?" or something else that makes SENSE.

maybe its just a typo that never got changed? "wait" and "want" differ by only one letter, granted there's some space between the "i" and the "n" on a keyboard...😕

anyways, to each his own...

I knew it. Any hope of this NOT getting into a religious argument is in vain. People come from varied backgrounds and beliefs. As much as I like to hear everyone's opinion, I would like to do so without the insults and flames. One's choice of remaining a virgin is as valid as another choosing to lose it before marriage. It should be a personal choice.

The problem I'm having is this: I'm an Agnostic so I don't have any moral objections to having sex outside of marriage. But there are a great number of girls who claimed they are Christian that do want to have sex. Eventually they'll want to marry a good Christian, but for the time being they don't mind having some "fun". I hate the fact that the girl I'm sleeping with now will someday marry a guy that is expecting her to be a virgin. I feel sorry for the guy who has kept his virginity only to be lied to in the end. You can tell me to avoid Christians, but that is impossible. Majority of people in the US subscribe to Christianity. The guy who says that you can't tell the difference between Christian and non-Christian is correct. Especially in terms of sexual behavior. Sorry to disappoint the devout member, but that's the reality of it. There really isn't much accountability in Christian belief if you can be forgiven for any transgression.

I support the belief of religious freedom. I just wish that those who subscribe to a certain religion to take it more seriously. There's too many of those who "uphold their reputation and provide lip service" while having skeletons in their closets. My belief is if you are a Christian, you should keep your virginity. It is common knowledge that Christian belief prohibits sex outside of marriage. You already know this. If you want anyone to respect you as a Christian, the answer is clear as day. If you don't take your religion seriously, then neither should anyone else.

Still a virgin at 25. I won't be as of the 29th of this month...when I get married. 🙂 WOOT!

Remained a virgin for two reasons: 1) To honor God (1 Thessalonians 4:3) - sex outside of marriage is wrong. 2) To honor my wife with a gift that I have reserved for her.
