"I don't know about you, but I've known plenty of wealthy people who dress like bums."

ok, it's one thing not to flaunt your wealth, but another to purposely look like you're on welfare.

Why do some wealthly people make you believe they are of low social status?

From the people I know, the biggest reasons they are millionaires is that they were frugal all their life. Life doesn't change after they hit a million.

Because they can? if they find it comfortable, who cares? its the salesman's loss.

Haha, same thing happened to my dad... He was out looking at property and there was an open house, he shows up in an old LS400 while there are fancy mercedes, bmws and landrovers etc. parked out front. He is wearing is usual sweater and when he goes to ask the price of the house, the sales agent acts very rude towards him and wouldn't tell him anything. After letting her know that he owned a property just up the street, her sneer turned into happiness and was 'delighted' to help him. After that he left as he didn't want to deal with such a shallow person such as that sales woman. It's pretty funny when you see people do that but at the same time it's sad how pathetic people can be as well.

they are secure and don't want to draw attention to themselves i guess. and yes to weed out shallow or gold digger folks who dismiss them based on appearance who would otherwise become false friends if they saw signs of wealth. a sh*t filter i guess

That's a pretty stupid reason not to do business with someone. Real estate agents who host open houses get peple who have no intention of buying a home come in and waste everyone's time.

That's like driving to the Ferrarri dealership in a 88 Honda Civic with sweat pants and wondering why nobody is helping you.
Societal norms may suck, but they are what they are. If you want to play; play by the rules.

Because fashion, societal perception, looks, etc are 100% totally and completely irrelevant. You give my a billion dollars and I'll still wear the same exact stuff. I wear what's comfortable and practical, and isn't a waste of money.

I am by no means a millionaire but I am decently well off from working since I was 14 and saving. I worked as a plumber for 4 years and when I meet someone new that is one of the first things they learn. If you dont want to associate with me because you think I am a plumber and am "below" you then I dont plan on associating with you when in reality I am higher up in a construction firm and interning at meryll lynch.

It is kind of a way to test character. If someone treats me kindly when my social status is percieved to be far below theirs then they are someone I want to associate with. If they shrug me off thinking "o just a dumb plumber" then I sure as sh!t dont want to waste time with them. If my plans work out and I do endup making large sums of money I am pretty sure I will dress the same as I always do and hopefuly act the same too.
