Why do so many on the right consider Ronald Regan a foriegn policy hero?

This is why Regan is treated like a foreign policy hero.

1989 Berlin Wall comes down


(note: not relevant what impact he actually had. It's possible that USSR would have torn down the wall anyhow since they were broke, losing their grip, and falling apart. Real cause and effect are generally not important to the media. They always go for sensational/drama.)

Can't say I understand why either, but he benefited from the Iranians not wanting to release hostages while Carter was still in office, and he was in office when the USSR imploded. Both foreign events that gave him loads of good press.

He sold guns to the Iranians, emboldened Hezbollah and others, and was involved in all sorts of nasty things in Latin America, but at least he gave some good speeches. The myth of Reagan is far more impressive than the real Reagan, it's a pity the two get confused with each other so often.
