White is a cop out. When you're too scared to make a decision, you go whitewash on every wall, tile, fence, light in the house.

You're stereotyping. I live in an area with lot's of $500K+ homes, and not all of them use white lights, though most of them do. I use them, but that's because I just like them better.

For my dad, white lights are something he grew up with, and they represent tradition.

I prefer color myself, but I do admit that his house has certain charm with the white lights on the tree and the candles in the windows.

I like the combination of white and red for christmas lights. It just looks better in my opinion.

My understanding is that white lights are standard for exteriors, at least in climates with proper winter, because they are supposed to evoke the shine and sparkle of ice struck by light. Coloured lights are commonly used on trees, to augment their already colourful decorations. For other interior applications, white/coloured is at the discretion of the decorator, and dependent on the home's colour scheme.

Seriously, you need to sit down and drink several gallons of eggnog right now!

White lights have a crisper, cleaner look. The only lights we put up on our house are icicle lights across the front of our house and up the peak. It looks very nice.

I live in a higher scale neighborhood, and the big thing here is solid colors on the trees and bushes, then those mechanical deer things. For instance, a green tree, a blue bush, a red tree and a moving lit up deer.

1 color or two colors can be done, with virtually any combination of 2 colors. But, nothing is more tacky, or more annoying, than long strings of 8 different colored bulbs all blinking in weird patterns.

White lights look better, and if the whole street has similarly colored lights, the street as a whole will look better. White LED lights look way better than the horrible multicolored ones.

We had kids going around moving the deer so one was on top of the other "doing it" doggie style. :Q

Edit: I realize 400-500k is not a lot in most parts of the country, but this is in a Houston suburb, and one of the most expensive subdivisions in this area. It's expensive enough for Slim Thug to have a house there.

What are you smoking?

Most highly populated parts of the country. See the replies saying that 400-500k houses = middle class.

What? The commoners in the nearest other neighboorhood all have colored lights. Looks tacky. We all have white lights, looks nice.

I really hope you're being sarcastic, but it kinda sounds like you're not...

We don't need colored lights screaming "Hey, I exist too ya know!"

You already know we're here.
