Numpad you fools! Perfect symmetry, 1& 2, 7 & 9 perfect for special binds, enter = jump, . = crouch, / = reload if needed....

ESDF for movement
A for jump c for crouch works great, very little distance to move to do any of those things.
w for knife/pistol switchout

I use ESDF then a and g to strafe to the respective sides, and c to crouch then some of the buttons around for other things such as r for reload and q for prone (dod)

How people can still use the arrow keys is beyond me. My cousin does it and it drives me fvcking nuts.

WASD works great, moving to ESDF doesnt make tooo much of a difference. the number pad is lame unless your mouse = left handed. (plus too few keys in that area, try playing tfc/ra3).

Left Ctrl is kinda hard though. Plus you open up keys that have good mnemonics like W - weapon G - grenade C - crouch V - voice A - activate/use

Maybe some people are missings a finger(s)? I dunno.

Okay, all you arrow-key people get out of my thread, play your game of choice with a reasonable config for an hour, come back and maybe we can help you recover from your brain damage.

j/k

Really just try one any of the other configs, you'll probably like it after getting used to it.

i started out using arrow keys, but they were waaay uncomfortable, and you could bind more buttons with WASD. and i think its a little bit more comfortable than ESDF

I have small hands and fingers so WASD is just fine for me. I've tried other configurations before but they are usually just a shift over or two. I have a five button mouse so in TFC there's really not much use for me to have another configuration that's not WASD.

You don't want none of my crazy communist buttons.

Z= Secondary Fire, X = Left Strafe, C = Crouch, V = Back Step, B = Right Strafe, N = Use
Mouse1 = Primary Fire, Mouse2 = Forward Step

I have a friend who does that too. Confusing as hell. but you do get used to it. I'm thankful that I can adapt for just about anything, so WASD, Cursors, ESDF, whatever. Bring it on :p

yeah, and my thumb is in a nice position on jump, crouch, etc.

the other reason i wouldnt want to switch is that i would feel like putting that much effort into my video game playing would cause me to suspect reason for 3rd party intervention.

I use basically the same thing, SDF and then mouse 2 for forward.

Exactly, I am wondering the same thing.

Why is it that those game devs set it as their default? I mean with ESDF you can have the A, W and R, G, V, C, SPACE, L SHIFT, and quite possibly Z if your hands are that limber and you are good to go. :)

Everyone who thinks ESDF is uncomfortable or akward must be hunt-and-peck typists. ;)

wasd is reasonable ergonomic esp on a split keyboard. having ctrl shift alt and space within easy reach.. well no reach at all. esdf makes you stretch your pinky to reach those keys, stretching is bad for you.

I don't use ctrl, shift, or alt.
I remap anything I use to Q-Y, A-H, Z-N, spacebar, and the five buttons and wheel on my mouse. ;)
