For the same reason you don't go for the $5 whore -- you don't want to stick your extremely valuable parts into an enclosure that could harm them.

in a year it will be 1/2 that price, just picked up a case with a 400w 20/24 pin PSU for $49...great cases and great ventilation

Quick with the name calling are you?

Just because people get aftermarket wheels doesn't mean it's always for looks.

So quiet. So easy to work with. So nice looking. Easily worth the $90 I paid for it a few years ago.

Yep, the flashy, spinning rims offer absolutely nothing beyond cosmetics.

Why do people pay more for a BMW when they can get a KIA? They both get you from point A to point B. Why do people pay more to fly first class when they can fly coach? It's all the same plane.

Because they're RICH BITCH.

Like any serious hobby, assembling computers has its die hard followers and its not so serious followers. And just like in any other hobby industries arise to cater to those die hard fans who are willing to pay the extra buck for a quality product. Just look at the home theatre industry. People who want to get into home theatres but aren't fanatics will settle for a cheap all in one home theatre box. Those who are really serious about it don't bat an eye at spending thousands of dollars per speaker.

The cases purpose is simplistic, but not as insignificant a choice as you make it sound. Your car analogy is true, but a cheap case WILL cause problems while a cheap car may not.

Uhh I've never spent more than $30-40 on a case and have never had any problems with any of them.

There can be good cases in that price range. It also depends on your components and what you do with your computer.

I paid $180 for my Cooler Master, and it is the best case ever. Simple, sleak appearance plus it is made of aluminum. Not only that, but I've had it for 3 years now. $60 per year for a quality case is well worth it.

WILL and may not are an interesting choice of words... I've owned everything from a $10 beige case to a $100 Antec SLK3700BQE, and I'm currently using a $25 Rosewill case. Every one of em has served their purpose fine, the SLK3700BQE was noticably sturdier and heavier, but I've had zero problems with any. A $50K car may give you problems, a $10K car may give you problems. To say a cheap case WILL, is not a certainty...

A rim is part of the wheel.

If you're referring to those flashy spinners as rims, those are still called wheels and those aren't the wheels I'm referring to in my previous post.

I don't understand...whats the real difference? They're both racks that just hold a bunch of drives and components together. Its not like I need it to withstand a nuclear blast or endure mechanical stress. All it has to do is not fall apart while sitting still and it can be considered successful.

Its like a $0.50 walmart spoon versus a $10 fancy spoon. They're both fvcking spoons...its hard to fvck up a plastic spoon.

And the Antec Sonata isn't the only case on the market with smoothed edges. That $30 case I bought has them, and it has a slide out motherboard tray and ample fan room. The only modifications I made were to cut out the fan grills and to punch a hole in the front bezel.

LOL I thought I had posted a question just like this....then I realized it was my old thread...but yeah, my $30 Raidmax case doesn't look/perform/feature anything really different from the 200 dollar ones I see..

I think it is a waste of money most of my parts hang outside the case and rarely do I ever close my case because I change my parts very frquently.

Yeah, I just did a search for an old thread I posted in and ended up finding like 50 that I thought needed a read, including this one.

And have you seen some of the low end cases on newegg? They come pre-riced out, so even if I wanted all that crazy light crap on my computer I still wouldn't have to put down a lot of cash.

The only complaint I have about my case is its made out of steel. I like flimsy aluminum better because its so much lighter, plus my dremel cuts through it like butter.

Motherboard trays are awesome.

Latch drive locks are awesome.

Smooth edges are awesome.

Roomy is nice.

Thumscrews are awesome

Looks are a little important.

All reasons I spent $100 on my Kingwin.
