why do people pay retail?

rudeguy

Lifer
I refuse to pay retail for anything. I think this comes from working in sales for so long now. The only thing I can't seem to get a deal on is groceries. What about you guys, are you someone who is willing to just lay down and pay whatever they tell you, or are you a ferengi?

I never haggle for products other than cars. I see it as an embarassing activity that is very irregular and unsure. I much prefer coupons and rebates.

because some people. like me would ratyer just buy something then going through the hassel of PMing, useing a cupon or a rebate.

illl do that if im gonn save a ton of money but ill just pay 5$ extra and save myself a headache

Depends on the item.

so you only try to haggle if its something big ticket?

You're telling me you go into the Gap and haggle about the prices?

nope...but I will buddy up to someone who works there to get their discount, or surf around online to find a nice coupon to use

Naw, i wouldn't bother with crap like that. Too much trouble. If i was to save $50 or more, then i might consider it, but for most stuff, i don't care.

not necessarily. If i need to buy soda, i'll buy which ever is a better deal (coke products as opposed to pepsi products). But i'm not going to refuse to buy my brand of deodorant if there isn't a sale on it at the time.

the reason I am asking this is that I dont understand why people go to stores like best buy and circuit...they hardly ever give you a good deal on bigger products, and they sell the same things as smaller stores that will beat their price any day of the week

I thought that you were talking about sales or something...buddying up with someone at every store you shop at is freaky. And you can't find coupons for every store...but yeah, I seldomly ever buy at retail prices (clothes, electronics, etc...), but only via the sales and a coupon every now and then.

yet best buy still sells a ton of big screens....the store that I work at is the #1 seller of big screens here in MI...but I still talk to people who buy screens at best buy....I always ask them why, and never get a good answer

Because I realize that profit isn't a crime and if I think it's overpriced, I don't buy it in the first place.

I bought my Big Screen at best buy, but I waited for a 10% coupon weekend and the manager gave me delivery for free. Sure I could have saved maybe $100 buying from some place online, but for some things it's worth it to me to buy locally so I can bitch to that place in person if I'm not happy with the product or to get service done on it.

I also got my TV at Best Buy (32" Sony WEGA) and waited for the 10% coupon. But the best part is that the guy scanned the coupon twice so I got 20% off!
