Do not have it on my phone, it's pretty basic.

But have three desktops in the house, I personally use those where ever I'm at.

No need to start a rant thread about phones though.

One thing to add: 4K video. You can easily use a few gigs for a short clip... on a 16GB phone, that becomes very painful, very quickly.

You also need enough free space on your device to perform operating system upgrades. I am living that nightmare on my daughter's 16GB iPad right now. There isn't enough space to upgrade the OS without deleting a bunch of crap first, which isn't my idea of a good time.

What exactly are people doing where they need so much space?

I have an LG G2 with 16GB and I've never come close to using that up.
I pull off all my pics onto my desktop SSD (or post to cloud)
Are people downloading videos? mp3s?

I don't get it.

Because they do, what's it to you?

I have 32GB + 128GB on mine.

Yeah why would I want a portable media player, gaming device, GPS, 4k video and still camera etc. able to actually STORE anything?? That's crazy talk!

Yes, please big corporations... please please charge me 2001 prices for piddly amounts of 2015/16 storage so the OS and 'other' can use up a huge chunk of it.

Please bring back 8GB (6 usable) and charge me up the nose for it!

Games take up 1gb each, pictures take up even more, maps for GPS take up also a lot, then there's stuff like movies/high quality music, etc. My phone is basically my tool box for everything but carpentry. So it needs a lot of space.

For those who stream everything, that's great but I keep it all local because I'm not around free wifi 24/7

Why would you store movies on your phone? Streaming is too big?
Actually, what kind of nitwit watches MOVIES on a 5" screen? Can't afford a TV?

I never play games.

Music? Haven't people heard of Spotify !??!

Maps? Stupid.

I think you're just being difficult.

Just because you don't play games doesn't mean others don't. I play several simple games on my phone and they still take a few hundred megs each (CSR Classics, Leo's Fortune 8-ball Pool, Minecraft Story Mode, Ski Safari 2, Cookie Jam). That's like 5 gigs right there.

Spotify is crap. iHeartradio is crap. STREAMING AUDIO IS CRAP. I frequently travel in places where there is no cellular service (many parts of I-10, most of 385, a few stretches of I-20) so streaming will not work for me. I have ~28gb of music on my uSD card.

I also take tons of pictures with my phone. It's got a camera that destroys my 2010-era PnS (But can't come close to my Canon t5 w/18-55 EFS=II ST lens), and the pictures can look great. Pictures take about 8gb right now, an I only expect that to go up. I don't use cloud sync, because again, I don't always have coverage.

Movies isn't something I really do on my phone, but I like the ability to store them locally and watch them when I'm in an area where I don't have service (which, co-incidentally means I'm not even remotely near my 75" Samsung LED and Yamaha/Polk audio system with comfy couch).

Maps storage, well Google Maps just added offline navigation... perfect for when I'm *GASP!* OUT OF THE SERVICE AREA.

You need to use your brain a little bit more. Stop thinking like a child and start thinking like an adult.

Sometimes, stupid people need to be called stupid, so that they understand they are stupid. Not calling out stupid people for being stupid is why we have a country full of whiners and "participation trophy" holders.

I'm sure we can all get by on 8 gigs if we really had to, but having the option of more storage and wanting to have more media on our phone certainly doesn't make us stupid imho.

Memory is very cheap, I'd rather see more by default than less, how can you argue otherwise?

I have 18gb of music alone on my phone. Add in everything else, and I was running out of room on my 32gb card, and just put in a 64gb card. That's not counting whatever was remaining on my 16gb internal storage.

I don't do "cloud" services. Computing is done on my computer, using my software. I have little use for streaming anything, or spyware infested "free" services.

4k video is a good example.

Games? How good can a cell phone game without a joystick, or paddle, or track ball!?!
All those mind games like Sudukee should take up almost zero space

I have barely any apps above whats forced on my Galaxy S5. I was told to clear space for the last software update.

Seriously -- no games, no videos, a few pictures and a few downloaded apps like twitch and instagram (not even facebook) and you are almost out of space on a 16GB phone with crap like Samsungs touchwiz and verizon's NFL mobile.

So, I don't need 16GB on my phone. But Samsung and Verizon need 32GB+

Well I have the entire Starwars KOTOR RPG on my phone and it's 100% just a straight PC port, so it's the same game you'd get if you played it on your computer.

KOTOR is also one of the best western RPGs from the mid 2000s.

Take a screen shot of your storage use page in android, $10 says it's filled with pictures/videos or music.

16GB isn't much for a phone, if you take even the occasional pictures and dont delete them, you will have several GB worth of photos in just a few months.

I've got a 64GB phone and it's about halfway filled most of the time. I've got about 120 apps and over 1000 pictures. I could clean it up but I don't see the need.

Too be fair his username is GoodEnough. For some people an 8GB Moto G is good enough.

Naturally. I never said otherwise. But I didn't start a topic acting completely baffled that people would need more storage for some magical, unfathomable thing.

This topic should just be closed. OP came in willfully ignorant, continues to post in the same manner, and that no way to start or continue a discourse.

This is a worthless topic.

Just last week, I was prepping to travel, and wanted to put a film on my tablet to watch on the plane. I admit I maybe shouldn't have bothered with high quality 1080p conversion, even if the tablet has a 1200p screen, but I didn't have room on it, a 32 GB tablet. No photos or videos on it, just a lot of games and books and things. I need storage.

Some people don't, and I get that. You don't see me starting the converse of this discussion, then acting like an idiot all throughout when people with legitimate use cases come forward.

While I have a 16GB phone I have a micro SD card and i put all UV movies and music on it and I set apps that allow it to also be on the micro SD card however Andriod says i still have 12.98GB of space due to apps, and 35MB for pictures and less than 1 MB for autio and downloads.

The main issue is that everytime an app updates it removes itself from my micro SD and only updates to the phone storage.

Then my cache file is always > 1GB so I run out of room often when apps try to download and update.

Dear I am using Note 4" 32 gb and I watched movies almost in my phone and for this I copied all the movies into my phone and definitely movies almost takes 1GB and lot more space depends on the quality. So space fill up is not a big deal it can be full withing hours.

I like to carry a few gigs of mp3s just in case I'm in a place with NO signal. And I have a granddaughter, when I want to record video and take pics I like to know I can go for broke and have no worries about running out of room for content.

Occasionally people are required by work to have apps on their phone; some of which are not always written to play nice with SD cards and use a lot of storage.

Not everyone buys the same phone or has the same usage patterns.

If you're buying a low end phone then 16GB storage is something that isn't out of the norm but if we're talking about a flagship phone then the minimum configuration should be 32GB and to me a microSD slot would definitely be preferable.
