My point is when people use proxies or vpns you are seeing the ip of that endpoint NOT their ISP ip.

Oh yeah of course, that goes with anything. The VPN is technically their IP, just not their real one. :p

For Tor, there are ways to get their real IP using javascript or other stuff like plugins (flash etc). If you use Tor, never turn on Javascript or any plugins.

Yeah but that accounts for what less than 5% of internet users?

It's not like most people are using a VPN 24/7

The paranoid ones do.
They have an openvpn client running on their router that redirects browsing traffic through the endpoint and voip and other realtime critical traffic through the actual ISP gateway so not to introduce latency and throughput reduction on those services.

I never said they didn't but if you think more than a few % of all internet users are like that, you're having a laugh.

Best way to get a someone's IP is to just send a PM and embed a unique GIF then check your server logs. :p

I've never done this.

Actually it's funny, on forums that allow graphic signatures mine shows your IP in it. Some people totally freak out at that.

That's how I know private messages on this forum are not exactly "private."
