BTW, if you have a vulnerable router firmware, congrats, yo ass just became a zombie bot. I see constant connections to my Wordpress blog trying to access WP-login all from people's hacked routers. IoT is another matter. Don't be stupid and post your IP to the world and keep your router firmware updated. Most of all, stay abreast of any and all vulnerabilities with your router. Better to use DD-WRT or ASUS Merlin, etc.

Who runs those pieces of shit?

There's no place like 127.0.0.1. There's no place like 127.0.0.1. There's no place like 127.0.0.1.

There's no place like local, localhost, or loopback? There has never been a scenario where the loopback ipv4 address has ever been referred to as "home" except in this really, really poorly made joke. Someone wanted to be witty, but failed massively and then pseudo-nerds picked up on it not knowing that spouting that nonsense makes you a) look like a "computer nerd" to laymen and b) look like an idiot to people who actually understand it. It's a lose/lose scenario. I suggest you forget about it entirely.

Funny, when I copied your post in wordstar on my V20 clone the application instantly used exactly 640KB RAM and halted my system. Damn that Bill Gates and his shenanigans!

Best way to get a someone's IP is to just send a PM and embed a unique GIF then check your server logs. :p

I've never done this.

Actually it's funny, on forums that allow graphic signatures mine shows your IP in it. Some people totally freak out at that.

That doesn't work unless you forbid proxies and vpn endpoints. And particularly with the latter, that is very hard to do unless you like to play digital whack-a-mole.

Not sure what you mean, The embedded image, or my signature? Both are pretty much easy to do. Like if I post an image in this thread I will get everyone's IP, but I won't be able to know who is who. But in a PM I would know since I only sent it to one person. I did this on another forum, once, I don't really recall the context, I was a kid and thought I was a l33t hax0r for doing it. :p As primitive as it is it is a decent trick if you want to know someone's IP for some reason.

Something like Privacy Badger would probably block the hidden image though, so not sure how well that trick would work now days with everyone running various ad blockers, privacy extensions etc.

The sig thing is a bit harder to "block" as there's not really anything special being done client side. Whoever is viewing the image will see their own IP, just the same way going to ipchicken.com will show your IP, except it's just doing it with an image.

I have been asked on various forums to disable that sig because it freaked people out though, I always get a chuckle at that.
