rap, lol come on, anyone see a rap music video?? Rap stars are easily manipulated, and encapsulate all things material and shallow. Its all about the money for rap music! Keep living your dreams and shooting each other...hate-filled "rap stars"

you just described most performers when you said "all about the money" If artists wanted to make music for the sake of making music napster would have stayed free and legal. You are kidding yourself if you think otherwise, rappers just talk about it. Metallica and all the rest of the bands out there are just as in it for the money as Kanye West is, they just don't write songs about it. in the end it's all about the $$$

and way to generalize the largest, and most popular genre of music in the world based off a few videos you've seen on MTV. I have close to 1,000 hip-hop cd's and 98% of them never mention money hoes or guns so much as once.

Plus being a braggart is part of the rich history of battle rapping that spawned the genre.

I love braggadocios lyrics, I find a lot of them to be so over the top it's obviously just a dude talking shit. Dr. Dre said he waters his lawn with Moet, while he technically has more than enough money to do so, nobody would ever actually do that. I should probably re-word what I said and say 98% don't make it a focal point of their material to talk about money and hoes.

Rap is much more than what u see on MTV & BET. I can see people hearing Duffle Bag Boyz and going "ugh fuck rap!" but some De La Soul? that's just great music to me.

ive found that real rap artists are nothing more than mere poets with a knack for delivery and emotion. if you really like "GOOD" rap and you can appreciate where it comes from and the depth of it, then you would like Def Poetry Jam.

mainstream rap is not what i would consider an art form. like someone posted before, its about commodity and making money. although i sometimes hop on the bandwagon of catchy beats and rap songs, real rap portrays a story, a truth that is often hard to swallow

There are some rap acts or rather hip-hop acts that are very positive and don't sing about bitches and hoes.

Try checking out EMC - The Show --- SUPER POSITIVE music.

Also try checking out the new Living Legends album and some of their older stuff.

Another album to check out is by Atmosphere, in fact check out all of his albums.

Very positive stuff.

I can't stand the stuff they play on the radio!

I was just about to say check out Atmosphere's new album. It is ridiculous, the stories he tells are simply great.

Its the uneducated peoples way of trying to write poetry, and the uneducated millionare who gives them the label, then its the uneducated people who listen to it. When have you ever heard someone in a higher end Mercedes, BMW, Cadillac (Except Escalades), listen to that? Never.

Um, I drive a BMW and I listen to rap. So does 2 of my other-BMW driving friends.

You are associating those luxury cars with older people. There ARE younger people who drove those cars and listen to rap or whatever.

and no, I didn't sell my kidney to finance my car. I have 0 debt (other than current 10K graduate school loan)

Figures, you are from Wisconsin - do you sleep with cows? (generalization, just like yours)

I hate people who hate on other people for liking rap or any type of music for that matter.

Why make this thread, you're not going to convince anyone to change their minds on the type of music they listen to and I doubt anyone cares what type of music you like/dislike.

It's called an opinion.

Imagine if this forum was full of

"why do people like BMW"

"why do people like Nike"

"why do people like yellow shirts"

Please stfu already.

If you hate rap, logically you'd have to dislike techno as well. Both are are just loops and samples, only rap has someone rhyming over the beat.

Oh yea, I forgot. Everyone on AT makes 6 figures, drives BMW's, and doesn't lift a finger for their job.

wat

rap is a shitty stab at trying to be House with far less sophisticated beats and lyrics.

techno is quite a bit different from the beats of House and Big Beat, but generally I guess they can all be grouped into electronica. Still... I hate rap, but I do like trip hop and big beat, well hell... I can listen to most electronica, but I don't know a lot of groups, but I like the sound. I stick to rock though.
But the thug influence in modern rap just blows. I like the sophistication of trip hop and other 'rap-style' electronica groups. Lyrics have a lot more meaning than bullshit 'street life' lyrics.
