Once you wade through all of the junk, there is a tonne of decent rap out there. It's not all "bitches and hoes and candy up the nose", there are some rappers than can actually construct a coherent sentence about something a little more interesting than that.

As said earlier most music is like this, there is going to be a tonne of garbage to sort through before you hit the really good stuff. Except for Country music, it's all terrible.

F the MPAA is classic stuff :p

I donno, everyone I've shown the song to didn't like it. I thought it kind of overpowered the lyrics at times. Techno and rap typically share the same musical quality as they have one sound repeated over and over and then other things added in, but I really don't think that clip from Adam Silvestri was a good choice for another repetition (since there already was a beat established).

F the MPAA was alright but I never really got into it. The World of Warcraft song actually brings back some memories as it's from Pre-BC :p. "10k armor when I switch into bear" "Windfury on my TUF"

I've never played WoW, so it didn't do much for me.

Personally good rap is like poetry - it flows like water and mixes with the background to form a stream of thought that elevates the mind.

Then there is the stuff that's on the radio, which is C-rap (that's right - crap).

I'll give you an example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ohi8NlxjtTQ

Jurassic 5, give it a try.

Why do people listen to Country or Electronica or Heavy Metal. I find all equally repulsive.

Personal choice FTW.

I love all the people who say things like "All rap is about ganstas and thugs and drugs and bitches and hoes." Yes, and all rock is about worshipping the devil and biting the heads off bats. All country music is about a poor schmuck whose wife burns his house down and runs off with his dog. All classical music requires a 100 piece orchestra. All reggae music is about drugs... OK, bad example.

The point is, within any genre there are going to be differences in styles between artists. Some of these differences may be subtle, which is how we know that two different artists are both in the same genre. But some differences are vast. Someone who likes 2Pac can listen to a hip hop artist like Dose One, and think that it is the worst shit they have ever heard. Someone who likes Sole may look at a fan of Obie Trice as an idiot with no taste. There are no hard and fast rules within the genre of hip hop or rap, and anyone who thinks that it is all the same is a fool.

Incidentally, just cause I get pissed when people are ignorant, here's a few hip hop artists who eschew the "thug" mentality: Aesop Rock, Slug (of Atmosphere), Sage Francis, Eyedea, Dose One, Sole, Alias, pretty much everyone from Anticon, Cunninlynguists, Common, A Tribe Called Quest, Zion I, The Grouch, Gift of gab (from Blackalicious), Diverse... There are tons others, but I'm just doing this off the top of my head. Oh, MC Hammer, he's awesome. And of course there's instrumental hip hop like RJD2 or DJ Shadow, but since we're talking strictly rap, I won't take that angle.

Just because the only rap they play on the radio happens to be shit, it does not mean the genre has nothing good to offer. I personally don't like any of the music they play on the country music stations, but Johnny Cash is amazing. Sure, they play him occasionally, but as a general rule it's new country, and I don't happen to like any of it. Mainly because it's all about ganstas and thugs.

I used to hate Country, but recently have realized there is some good country out there - just not the typical stuff that's on the radio. I pretty much listen to everything now, started off growing up on classical, reggae, jazz and blues (my mother was huge into Bob Marley and my grandparents loved the blues and jazz), from there listened to hip-hop growing up in the 80's (I still remember when the first few rap videos came out). I spent time memorizing lyrics to classic rap songs of the day.

Later on I got big into hardcore metal, then branched off into industrial, from industrial started checking out techno, etc..

So pretty much I can think of songs / music in every genre that I love from classical to rap to hardcore metal to industrial. A lot of rap music is crap, but like you said, you can find good music in any genre if you have the patience to give it a try.

"Electronica" Isn't a real genre, it's what retard frat-boys and hipsters call shitty electronic music. They bought into the media buzzword. Real Electronic music is deep, diverse, and spans thousands of legitimate and equally interesting (maybe not all of them, but most) sub-genres.

I listen to all kinds of rap. From cheesy shit, to old skool, to the deep introspective story telling stuff to straight club bangers. I like it all depending on my mood. Alot of commercial rap may lack lyrically but really when you just want to bump your head or rock out on the dancefloor who the fuck needs lyrics anyways??? LIke all music it is about the feeling it gives you or it is about fun.

You could say that about many types of music. But "Real Electronic" music is no more relevant or irrelevant than Rap, Country, Alternative or Rock.

They all are genuine forms or music that many people around the country like. I honestly have absolutely no desire to listen to country music at all, but that doesn't mean that I don't appreciate someone else's like for the music.

I just feel that threads like these are nothing more than hate bait.

Oh no, I wasn't hating on any type of music (I can, if you want me to, I'm good at it :p). I was just trying to inform people that "Electronica" was and still is a media buzzword, and it means absolutely nothing. What people call "Electronica" could mean absolutely anything, and could easily be replaced with the more correct and precise genre term, or the equally vague but LEGITIMATE term "Electronic music" or "Electronic Dance Music".

It's asinine, is all.

There's a story behind it, too. Back in the middle to late 90s, the major record labels (who ironically pumped out the arguably more washed out and bland music) had been calling all of Electronic Music "Techno". This in of itself was incorrect, because Techno is a specific sub-genre with a distinct sound. People eventually became less interested in "Techno", and even began to find it humorous, so they coined a new buzzword. This time, it was not only wrong, it was completely fabricated. "Electronica" was born.

Music genres, IMO, are not legitimate unless they're coined by the people, by the artists, by all of us. Sort of like how social memes are born. You can TECHNICALLY try to force them on people for personal gain or profit, but that's just stupid and wrong. They need to grow naturally out "in the wild", so to speak. :D

interesting view point, I'm not sure if you were being sarcastic, or dumb or whatever you would consider it. But I bet you didn't know there are more rappers who are members of Mensa than from any other form of music? So even if MOST rappers are "dumb" as your would probably say, the few who are the smartest, would be far more intelligent than any performer you listen to.

I find your statement hilarious and incredibly ironic, because brain cell deficiencies and Mensa don't mix.

you just described most performers when you said "all about the money" If artists wanted to make music for the sake of making music napster would have stayed free and legal. You are kidding yourself if you think otherwise, rappers just talk about it. Metallica and all the rest of the bands out there are just as in it for the money as Kanye West is, they just don't write songs about it. in the end it's all about the $$$

and way to generalize the largest, and most popular genre of music in the world based off a few videos you've seen on MTV. I have close to 1,000 hip-hop cd's and 98% of them never mention money hoes or guns so much as once.

I hate most rap, but i don't discard the genre entirely. I find i enjoy some tupac, eminem, and the occasional song by common, ice cube, ice t, and even 50 cent.

Plus being a braggart is part of the rich history of battle rapping that spawned the genre.
