Don't even play that game. I saw one thread where I saw you compromise your personal website. You had it on to display a picture viewer. Did you even bother to click on both of the links? I origionally had the picture viewer hosted on Geocities, and that was all that was there... no personal information or anything else. Of course it quickly ran out of bandwidth so I decided to host it on my personal site for a little while. I didnt get any responses so I took the link down for security reasons. I am not posting my current link because you can then obviously get some personal information about me, that I don't want everyone on the web to get. I will post happily post my website link online here in a week when all of the proper changes have been made. Sorry about the delay to everyone.

I hate the advertisements. Crappy personal sites don't bug me, as I can voluntarily close the window when I see a big load bar. The ads that popup when I'm looking for showtimes irk the hell out of me though.

Sometimes you always have control over the computer you are using and its speed. Flash slometimes slows it down.

Some flash simply sucks.

Some Flash sites overuse animation (slow drop-down menus, whirly-swirly animation after clicking something). Some don't let you skip past the intro or, if they do, the skip option isn't available from the beginning.

And, then, yes, there are those lame-ass Flash ads! :|

I agree with the above.

But flash is still like junk email. Sure every once in awhile you see something interesting you would have missed out on otherwise. But you still have to deal with A. People who suck at it, and B. People using flash as popups so you can't block them.

It was just your earlier statement that made me respond, since to me it contradicted your claim of being so concerned and not sharing your site. But it's all good. Most flash is implemented poorly and without benefit to the visitor; I typically close the window if a flash site comes up without a choice to view it in regular html. Fortunately, most sites do not use flash or use it very little for things such as ads or menus.

There's nothing wrong with flash sites, granted some sites are completely in flash and they are so fancy that it takes a while to load and figure what the hell is the navigation, but flash intros, stand-alone are just fine.

I do have some photoshopping skills, and unlike other people, I dont put a big black box on my head. If someone had a little bit of photoshop experience, she could put on a famous persons face or something else interesting. Just not the same stupid black box. Ever just a simple filter to get rid of the photos...

If people just understood that things that move disrupt layout flow, then flash would probably not be such a horrible thing.

You know, it would be much easier to navigate your gallery if you displayed the pictures like you had them in your picture viewer thread. It's hard to see the whole frame using IE 6.0. It was fine with IE 5, though.

I just told you that you could use a simple filter over the photos too, then you could get the same effect as the cameras on TV when they blur out someones face. Its a better look than a black box... you could even trace an oval for your head so you dont have that stupid black box.

BTW: Everyone! I have an announcement! I slept with Luvly last night. How did I know it was her you ask? Well the lights were all off in my room, and her face looked exactly like I'd seen in her Fotki photos.

Run your resolution at greater than 800x600. You wont have that problem. N00B 😛

Edit: BTW Im usin IE 6 right now and it works just fine.

Bingo! Most flash is obnoxious, big and annoying. But if flash is done well, it looks great, is fast and a nice site to navigate. I still personally prefer html because it's faster and text searchable, but flash has it's uses.

Oh, by the way, I wouldn't filter it 'cuz I learned my lesson the hard way once. I used the pixelise option once and someone tried to trace it back! It also became the person's comic. I would rather no clues of any kind were left.
