Ok my sister is a waitress at Joe's crab shack and she is a good waitress and fair people usually tip her well, on weekends she makes anywhere from 100-170$ in tips depending on how busy they are, but their is always AT LEAST (usually much more) 1 group that will come in and totally run her ragged then gyp her. This is very very aggravating how can people feel justified to do this.

About a month ago a family came in and ate there were about 5 of them and they all ordered fairly large meals with drinks and deserts. My sister goes to get the check for them and they leave while she's gone ( they were sitting on the deck and just jumped the little railing and drove off) leaving my sister to pay their bill.

Fast Forward to Tonight

A group of 4 17-18 yr old Guys (Spring Breakers i presum since we live by the beach) come in and order their meals and are being real specific with everything in their orders and just generally anal retentive bugging her all through the niht ( they were very busy) but she kept up and served them well just like everyone else. Check time comes and they pay and leave her 2 dimes and 8 pennies. She gets upset (who wouldn't) and follows them out and asks them what she did wrong that she only deserved 28 cents? they fumble around with words for a while and say they got their appetizers after their food, she says yes you did but thats only because you changed your order for the appetizers after a while, they say ok and she says what else was so bad? they say well you charged us for our sodas... she responds thats because you had sodas. They say "well we thought you'd be cool and give them to us for free."

WTF!?!?!?! WHY IN THE WORLD ARE PEOPLE SO FRIGGING STUPID??????

they dont have anyway to stop it. anyone could sit in the back on the deck and do exactly what they did. there are a bunch of parking spots back there, plenty of room and it really hard to see from inside. any and every problem is the waitresses/waiters fault and they pay for every one of them, she has a horrible manager who everyone hates at the store to boot, Corporate wont do anything about him though. she has been with Joe's for over 2 years too she is 19 now and will prolly be leaving soon anyway but still. this just really irks me

thats amazing considering the waiters/waitresses make about 2.50$ an hour yes that figure is right, yes i know its less then MINIMUM WAGE, that apparently doesnt apply to waiters/waitresses.

It depends on where you live. I believe some states require even waiters/watiresses to be paid minimum wage.

because the last 6 waitresses I have had have been total and complete idiots.

And why Im not assailing your sister, waitresses, IMO, seem to think they are doing a better job than they really are. I've had far too many waitresses ignore me for 20-25 minutes and then think a simply "sorry it took me so long" with a cute smile will earn my forgiveness. A friend of mine who worked at damons thought she was hot sh*t and got pissed at customers (after they left) when she got less than 20%. In reality, she was a terrible waitress.

That's really awful if she doesn't get tipped

cuz people are a holes, i work on tips, and i understand that waiters/waitresses need and deserve their tip, even if hte service is horrible (and i never outright complain about service and or food), i will still give the waitress at least 10% of the bill, and i usually end up tipping more of about 25%-35% of hte bill, sometimes even more if i'm out with a female.

Its 2.13, and if they dont make mininum wage w/tips then employees are required by law to pay the difference (between their total take the what min. wage, 5.15, is.)

I would complain to corporate if a waiter/waitress EVER confronted me about a tip. That is rude and unacceptable regardless of how hard she thought she worked. If she makes $200/weekend then she can write off a missed $5 tip from a bunch of idiots.

HA, congrats to her for following them out and standing up. It takes some courage, but I bet they deserved it.

It sucks that the restaurant didn't cover the table that skipped. She had no influence over that occurrence.

Yeah, she does need the $5 when she has to pay $60 for the llamas that skipped before they got the bill...

Why is the general public so suckered in by the restaurant industry? You pay $20 for a $2 steak, $3 for a 25 cent potato, $4 for a 75 cent beer and $7 for a 45 cent salad, then are expected to subsidize the low wages that the restaurant pays their employees? Hell of a system, it should not be too long before we get to pay for the pleasure of getting seated.

And the waiters and waitresses should suffer because you think things should be priced close to what they cost the restaraunts? Take your money else where and hurt the friggin restaraunt instead of taking up the table of someone working her ass off to give you a good meal. You want things to be different then do something that will affect the way things are now! Stop being an ass.

or spending 70 on nike's that cost 3 bucks to make

etc etc etc....

I never said I didnt tip a server, I generally tip about 20-25% of my bill, and my servers are always happy with me.

Do I not have any fuggin right to question the system where we are EXPECTED to subsidize the wages of a companies employees? Maybe Target or Best Buy will implement a tipping system for the checkers and lower their wages.

Most theme parks are not subject to minimum wage either since it is seasonal employment, maybe a tipping system for the guys running the ride should be in order, after all they are working their asses off to make sure the ride goes round and round.

Again, is this company expecting you to pay the employee who waited on you a percentage of what you spend?

Please question it! But like I said, do something worthwhile about it.

I try to tip really well to make up for inconsiderate morons who pull that kind of crap.

Unfortunately, because of people like that, most waitresses have assumed that I'm going to leave a horrible tip (I look young), so I often receive poor service. When that happens I still leave a good tip, just not the excellent tip I would've left had they treated me like a normal customer. Ah well, I'm getting older and starting to look older too...they've been treating me better lately. ;)

prices have to be jacked up so that the restaurant can pay for their employees, electricity, upkeep...etc. they can't sell something to you for what they paid for it...whats the point of business without profit? and if tipping annoys you, just think of it as another part of the bill. or they could always raise the prices more and eliminate tips. same difference.

thats sucks, waitresses work hard and dont get paid enough, i think if they do a good job especially on a crowded night they should be tipped 20% buts thats just me, ill probably get flamed for saying that.
