Because 'having a good time with a soda' is just that. Having a good time. Which is fine and all.

Alcohol, however, improves the mood. If you are having 'just a good time', it makes it a *better* time.

And that's in moderation - just a drink or two. You don't have to get "falling down drunk" to have a good time. In fact, in my experience, that TENDS to have exactly the opposite effect.

believe it or not, but about the time senior year rolls around, most people dont care about being cool anymore. Having a good time > cool. Now, of course the cool kids will only drink at parties and tell people who drink by themselves that they are losers, but really alcohol and coolness have little to do with each other these days, despite the common stereotype

Yeah.

Because it's a good stress reliever, it makes everything more fun, it's something to do, it makes classes less boring, it make social situations more interesting, it tastes good (not the cheap crap), etc. etc. etc.

i'm underage....but only for a few months now.

i've only met one other person who doesn't drink at college so far.

and i have pretty diverse friends surprisingly.

so i guess i drink for social purposes b/c that's what everybody else is doing.

otherwise i'll go to a show and rock out ::shrug::

I'm not underage, but as for why i drink...

I hate the taste of nearly all alchohol, so it's not cause i enjoy the taste.

It's fun getting trashed, as it feels good, & makes everything seem okay.

I tend to be reserved & shy, & drinking brings out the crazier side of me :)

I've been hearing from many of my friends, whom are still in high school, and their party and drinking experiences, but could not understand why they do it.

So, ATOT, why do you think that people drink, and what motivates people under age 21 to drink?
Is it peer pressure?
Anti-depressant?
...
Or does it just taste damn good?

This is one of those things you have to experience first hand.

As a rule, most alcohol based beverages do not taste "damn good".

I'm drinking it as we speak (type (think)), and yeah....it really does. :D

I had a recipe for Long Island Iced Tea that I was trying to make, but I didn't have any kinda sour mix or whatever to throw in there so i just did lemon juice and salt. That really is what it taste like though, and potent! o so potent! :D

Most drinks I have had are an aquired taste. Have you ever drunk a martini?

Yup, but it's just not my thing really. Southern Comfort + Coke is always my drink of choice, but lately I've been experimenting with other stuff, making different drinks and all that I'm really starting to enjoy. Still doesn't beat a nice so co + coke, but these things are definitely something nice. :)
