Why do married men NEVER have cash in their wallets?

I just asked The Big Boss if he wanted to go have Chinese food for lunch. He said:

Yeah Mike, that sounds good...gotta stop at the ATM first though...I've got no cash.

He makes 5x what I do, yet he NEVER has money in his wallet. I'm not talking $100 or more...not even $5!

I have noticed this w/my boss, too, as well as most of the other guys in the office.

What do they have in common? All of them are Married With Children.

I understand they have bills and expenses. So do I. But they always open the wallet and say "Damn. My wife/kids/dog/cat raided my wallet again!"

WTH? Isn't your wallet "sacred space" or "off-limits?"

When I was cohabitating, my wallet was off limits as was her purse. You just don't go thru your wife's/GFs purse! It's private.

I'd be pissed if I thought I had money and my wallet was empty.

What's wrong w/you married guys?

I pay most things w/my Debit Card. But always have at least $20 on me...unless I'm broke that week.

well, i know that
1) i am not a guy
and
2) i am not married with kids...
BUT, i nor my sig other carries cash just because we both have debit cards which makes it easier. Plus, i think if i always carried cash, i would be more likely to spend more.

i dont know if you are just asking about the cash thing or about the wallet as a scarced place thing so... :D

I'm married, and never carry cash. Didn't when I was single either. Debit card is so much easier. Now the money part of my wallet serves as a receipt holder, until I can write in in my check register. Sometimes I wish I had cash, and I should since there's an ATM where I work. Just never take the time to get any out.

I'm married, pay for things mostly with my cash-back CC. But I still carry cash in my wallet.

My wife's dad keeps a truckload of cash in his wallet all the time. He says that he tried to hide it from his wife at first but she always finds it when she needs cash. :D

As for me, I usually don't have cash because I use my ATM card/check card for most stuff anyway....

I'm married, one kid.

Don't carry cash because I'll spend it if I do :).

That said, my wife has raided my wallet in the past and I have raided her purse. We share the money equally, I don't care where it is, if you need it, you need it.

i'm not married, but i never have cash in my wallet because credit cards / checks leave a paper trail (i need this so bad to keep an account of my spending...) occasionally, i'll have a 5 in there, but that's about it.

Why would I need to carry around a wad of cash when there are ATMs within walking distance of almost everywhere I go to?

He has money, otherwise he wouldn't be able to go to the ATM.

I rarely go to the ATM, so when my cash runs out, it runs out. I pay for everything with my debit card. Just about every place takes CCs these days, so why bother with cash?

the conclusion you drew is a reach. i could just as easily said people who like the color blue dont carry cash in their wallets and find a couple of people to back that up.

its because most people have direct deposit now, I don't have any cash on me unless I hit the ATM.

I'm married with kids - 3 of them teenagers. I never have cash in my wallet, either. Or in my bank accounts or anywhere else, of course.

If I did have any cash in my wallet, it would get "borrowed". So I don't bother.

For great fun, I go out for pizza with the teens and then at the last minute "remember" that I don't have any money on me, and watch them squirm and then finally come up with enough to pay the bill.

We old people have to find our fun wherever we can.

I don't carry cash either. I too find that if I have it I use it. I'm much more reluctant to pull out my credit card since I already owe some money on it.

Odds are your boss had to run a gauntlet of open hands looking for cash from the time he went home last night to leaving for the work this morning, especially if he has teenagers. I'm not the least surprised he only carries the bare amount of cash necessary to get through the day-it's financial self defense.

I'm not married, and I rarely have cash in my wallet. The only time I have cash is when I need cash... which is rarely.

It's just so easy to be cashless these days.
