partially because they carried and waggled tea bags for a while at one point... but also because they then associated some derogatory sexual connotation with it...

see the thread about condescending libs...

Are you kidding? These are the guys who call Limbaugh LimpBalls.

Politics is a schoolyard full of kindergarteners.

I don't. I call them what they are. America haters.

There are a few reasons - early on some of them would wear tea bags; and tea bag is a sexual term so it's used to ridicule the party members.

The whole tea thing doesn't make all that much sense; while it was an anti-tax protest, it was protesting preferential powerful corpration treatment, which the 'tea party' largely supports.

It's got a weird mix of a strain against corporate abuse, while its 'conservative' leaders - like Sarah Palin - are long time supporters of corporate privilege. Many cheer the court decision to empower corporations.

While use of the term on an internet discussion forum is no real surprise, I do find it vaguely amusing that you hear liberal pundits in media sometimes using the term. Teabagging has a very crude sexual meaning. I wonder if the media types who use the term are aware of that, or if they are just repeating a term they have heard used elsewhere.

Yes, certainly, opposing higher taxes is hating America. The only people who hate America are the bigots pushing their ideology through Congress against the will of the majority.

IIRC, this came from a sign one of these idiots was holding at the very beginning:

"Teabag the dems before the teabag you" or somesuch.

So actually, the term originated within the movement itself and has since been seized upon to mock them.

we're not going to wait around for your 'majority' to evolve an intelligent thought process.

No, in fact it had everything to do with the Crown restricting free trade and not allowing a private company to do business without paying an unreasonable tax. Restricting free trade...hey, sounds like Obamacare!

A) Because its an insulting twist on their name for themselves, and people on both sides of the political spectrum are nothing but mindless children
B) Because the tea party movement deserves to be insulted, not for their values, but for their clear misunderstanding of history in choosing that name for themselves.

You may choose A or B.

Go away troll. Billicheat sucks too.

He's the one who basically said democracy needed to be circumvented for the good of the people. That's a Marxist statement if I ever heard one.

Sorry, I forgot trolling was "people disagreeing with you".

1) What taxes have been raised?

2) What has been pushed through congress against the will of the majority.

I don't expect you can/will answer either one. Neither can the teabaggers. :)

Gotta love when Righties assert they really are the majority, when they got whupped pretty badly in the last election cycle... if it weren't for non-proportional representation in the Senate, they'd be completely underwater.

Full blown denial, par for the course.

Teabaggers? They call themselves Teabaggers. Check the pic of the old dude down the page, here-

I'm sure that button he's brandishing isn't one of a kind...

They originally called themselves teabaggers and proudly displayed tea bags hanging off their hats at the early protests, and throwing tea bags over the White House fence on April 15, 2009. Once the (rather obscure) sexual connotation of the term "tea bag" became more widely known (mostly through giggling MSNBC/CNN commentators) the movement dropped the term like a hot potato and ever since have sought to recast history as the term originating by evil, dirty minded name calling liberals.
