alright, first of all, geekbabe.. why are you getting all crazy about scars and stuff? i never said anything about your appearance and here you are defending yourself.. against....what exactly? everyone has scars. if you would like to know the truth i have stretch marks all over my ass :) and i havent had kids yet! im sure itll be horrible when i do. i also dont wear shorts or skirts or dresses unless i really have to. thats not the point of this thread. and neither is making fun of fat people. i do realize that the way i worded it may have sounded like i meant it in a cruel way, but honestly that is not how it was intended. one of my ex boyfriends was considerably large and i was at the time 90-95lbs.. but he wore clothes that were appropriate for his size. trust me, how much someone else weighs does not concern me AT ALL. i just dont see the logic in wearing something that really does not look attractive. like i said, you could start another thread about skinny girls who dress skanky...

and now im getting tired of typing. :)

Why? because my dear when you live by the sword you must be prepared to die by the same sword.
Scars ,stretch marks, acne scars all come shortly after fat on the list of features deemed unattractive on women.

You sit here starting a thread making fun of fat women's clothing choices in order to suck up to teenage boys who's ideal women are 2D images.Have a baby, require some surgery or even just make the mistake of growing older, then you can feel the joy of being impaled on the same rigid fashionista police sword that you so freely stick in the back's of other women.

Btw,you don't get to decide what clothing is appropriate for other people and if you think that you do I do so hope that the next time you slip on even a modest bathing suit that some ATOT'er gets a look at your stretch marked rump, points, laughs and starts a thread about your inappropriate clothing choices.

i dont wear bathing suits. i have common sense.

How old are you?I'm 47,I haven't worn a bathing suit since I was 28,almost 20 yrs of deprieving myself of the joys of swimming, sunbathing, almost 20 yrs of sitting around dying in the heat covered from neck to ankle while others were comfortable. All because of marks and scars that I had no control over and my fear of comments from low self esteemed people like YOU

Lemmie tell you,20 yrs foregoing a lot of basic comfort sucked, strange telling people like you now to go fsck yourself is rather sarisfying.Who knows, maybe I'll get brave enough to wear a pair of shorts or a modest suit and actually enjoy some of my summer this year. Thanks:)

i seriously dont understand why youre getting so upset at me. and youre actually the only one that is bothering me by being upset, because youre actually cool. i dont wear bathing suits, shorts, skirts, anything that shows my legs hardly ever.. because i am constantly hearing negative things about my legs. dont think that im one of those people that just goes around making fun of anyone with an imperfection. trust me, i know what its like. i have beautiful friends that have perfect bodies and perfect skin and im always being compared to them. i dont have boobs, im really really white, i have fat legs, i have bad acne all over my back and chest, i have stretch marks, i have cellulite.. i could go on forever.

why cant you all just get the point that this was NOT meant to make fun of people.

You're not getting my point,I'm sitting here down the other end of life's road and I'm telling you that
basing your clothing and lifestyle choices totally around the opinions of other people really sucks.I'm also telling you that getting to go thru life feeling as if you are ugly and defective for physical flaws not
under your control also sucks and it sucks hard.I've spent almost 20 yrs deprieving myself of a lot of comfort and fun to submit to the so called correct opinions of people like you.. and it got me what?

a whole lot of feeling really bad about myself

By making this thread, you were doing to other women what is being done to you and what is already limiting and restricting your life..trust me dear, you don't want to go there. Obviously not everybody can wear a thong bathing suit but to never, ever go to the pool or the beach because we aren't perfect? Lol and we say the Tailban was a horrid oppressor of women,we're worse!

good lord I think I've had some sort of revelation on ATOT of all places..I might faint so it's good I'm seated.

I eat well,I exercise and am slim.I do my best with what nature gave me,I try to dress in an appropriate manner and go out of my way to not offend the sensibilties of anyone.I intend to dress in cool, comfortable seasonally appropriate clothing this summer and I intend to enjoy doing so,if people don't like the view they don't have to look and if they think their opinions matter to me they can kiss my irish ass!

I have almost no idea what is happening in this thread, but I noticed your last sentence.

It's an insult to the victims & those who suffered under the Taliban for you to say that. You are not being forced to do anything. They were prevented by force. Don't paint yourself as some sort of victim.

You're probably exaggerating, but it's still surprising someone would even say such a ridiculous thing.

In my humble opinion, it is a sign of healing when a people can learn to laugh at a despotic regime or politic; e.g. the nazis, fascists (And so Mussolini said, "Right, we're all fascists." and all the Italians went "Alright... CIAO!!!"), slavery, or the Taliban. It is not inherently a sign of disrespect to say something like she has, used in the context in which it was.

Cheers!

We have a society in which a lot of women will roast in the heat covered in heavy jeans and tee shirts rather than risk social scorn and censor by donning even a modest bathing suit or shorts. We are as effectively "covered" as if we were wearing a burka, heck at least the Islamic countries are fair about it,all women no matter their size get to wear a similar version of the same uniform.

Over there they do it by force, over here we do it by public riducle and humilation and we're just sneaky about it..or we were until the last few years where it seems incrediably rude people have
less and less control of the humilating things they'll say or do to people who don't meet their physical standards.

Funny,America is now one of the most obese nations on the planet but our mockery and contempt for fat people is growing by leaps and bounds. What does mean?

You make it sound as if people are dying in the heat.

You're exaggerating it way too much! You're not going to have a perfect world - everyone will be ridiculed by someone else, even Brad Pitt. Nobody is being oppressed unless they want to be.

Maybe there are some social norms which you are trying to defy, unwritten laws of our culture. If I want to wear a pink frog costume around, I'll be ridiculed, but I'm not being oppressed.

But they don't let ANY of the women wear a bathing suit. We love it when physically attractive women wear them.

alright, first of all, geekbabe.. why are you getting all crazy about scars and stuff? i never said anything about your appearance and here you are defending yourself.. against....what exactly? everyone has scars. if you would like to know the truth i have stretch marks all over my ass :) and i havent had kids yet! im sure itll be horrible when i do. i also dont wear shorts or skirts or dresses unless i really have to. thats not the point of this thread. and neither is making fun of fat people. i do realize that the way i worded it may have sounded like i meant it in a cruel way, but honestly that is not how it was intended. one of my ex boyfriends was considerably large and i was at the time 90-95lbs.. but he wore clothes that were appropriate for his size. trust me, how much someone else weighs does not concern me AT ALL. i just dont see the logic in wearing something that really does not look attractive. like i said, you could start another thread about skinny girls who dress skanky...

and now im getting tired of typing. :)

Why? because my dear when you live by the sword you must be prepared to die by the same sword.

I think you're missing the point of my comparision. As to oppression,I think it takes many forms and perhaps the "unwritten laws of our culture" could use a little challenging.

We have folks declaring open season on other people publically based on their weight and clothing choices, yet our nation is growing heavier by the day, what does that say, what implications does it hold for the future?

That is true, but people choose to be obese, like I'm choosing to be scrawny right now. Being obese isn't a disability, it's a weakness.

i dont like the sight of a fat girl wearing tight clothes with skin hanging out... but why post that opinion on a site that mostly boys read? seriously, how many boys are gonna disagree with that?

i dont understand why you girls cant wear shorts and stuff...
