<< why do cows taste so good?>>

Because your brain tells you that it is good to eat it. It is based on preferences, though.

I haven't eaten meat for more than 7 years now, and I am glad for it.

Nothing beats my beef steak "grilled" on GFLMFRGM. :)

Edit: To answer your question, Jhu, I think it's because beef (as in meat pieces) isn't sausage. :)

Actually, if prions are one of the causative agents of BSE (Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy) or VCJD, then cooking will not inactivate them. Mouse brains cooked at 160C for 24 hours did not fully inactivate them.

I agree, eating the muscle of the cow is very tasty and is at a much lower risk. But the warning on the brain tissue also extends to the spinal cord and I believe the GI tract.

In a nutshell-- I will continue to eat steak (minimal risk) but will probably stop eating any product that has been make by mechanically separation methods, i.e. hotdogs.

Why do cows taste so good? Because it's meat and because my farmer in-laws always make sure my freezer is stocked with steaks and such. :)
