Why do college students fail?

tried a little bit of research with google, but the goal isnt really meant to nail the technical aspects. its meant to pick out the real reasons

1) Beer
2) Women

5) Video Games

<yoda>Because they believe it not.</yoda>

Although all the people I knew in college who got a dean's vacation were gaming addicts.

Not being able to deal with the fact you answer to yourself and not your parents.
Excess of everything partying, meeting people, drugs, alcohol.

Umm.... lack of responsibility and self-discipline.

I agree...freedom and choices. I htink a lot of kids are startled by the fact that if they don't show up, the prof won't give a flying-rats-behind. THEY make the decissions

I'm gonna lump drugs, alcohol, partying, and gaming in with "distractions". Many more distractions than what they had in high school. Much more access to distractions. And far less tangible determents from indulging in those distractions.

btw, im kinda focusing on new huge social life, crappy scheduling abilities, more responsibilities with less authority.. and partying on the weekends not helping either..

this paper is stupid tho without a lot of research.. tough to bs length out of it..

Alcohol! I've seen quite a few A+ high school students come to college and flunk out after they discover alcohol and the fact that they can party and drink every night if they want to...

Personally I am giving up drinking for the next 3 weeks (i usually drink and go out about 2 nights a week) just to concentrate on studying and finishing up stuff since the semester is almost over. I'll still find some time for gaming though...oh and I am gonna buy an Xbox game with the money I save in those 3 weeks...that is probably my main incentive 😉

You see it's not the partying on the weekends as much as it is the partying every single night of the week. I gaurantee the classes most likely failed are the ones scheduled before 10 AM.

true true.. good point 😛

one of the reasons i rarely drink now.. cant let it get outta hand.. its not as fun anymore anyways

I can tell you why I fail... High school was too easy. Didn't ever study, half-assed homework, didn't pay atention in class and made straight A's. Without good study habits, it's very easy to fail classes in college.

Immaturity
Lack of personal responsibility

Alot of people just aren't ready for the sudden freedom (and accompanying responsibilty) that they have when the go off to school.

well i think for me i have bad study skills. i also have ADD. i am taking medication for it now but it still doesnt seem to help me. lol. i have a essay that is due tonight, still havent even started. im pretty sure ill flunk this class anyways.

talk to you all later!

My reasons for failing:

1) Lack of motivation
2) Not studying enough
3a) Women
3b) Video Games (before I got a GF)

agreed.

Many fail out of Georgia Tech because they were in the top 10% of their graduating high school class, and since they were able to skate through high school on brains alone, they think they can do the same at Tech. But, after a week or two of slacking off, they soon realize they're in a hole they'll never get out of. After all, this is school that prides itself on eliminated a sizeable percentage of its freshmen, and of those in-state students who do manage to stay, 85% of them lose their HOPE scholarship (meaning, their GPA slipped below a 3.0 after the first year).

Partying in college is a side reason why college students fail. The main reason why college students fail is freedom. Freedom to party, freedom to not study, freedom from not being under the parents house to do what they want, when they want and how they want to do it.

Freedom is why college students fail. Partying is one method to enjoy so much freedom.
