Why do Americans not care about Soccer?

Because Americans are not sophisticated enough to appreciate finer subtleties where fluidity and footwork is the beauty of the game as opposed to constant scoring.

Pretty much we all have ADHD, in which we have to have constant scoring in order to keep us interested.

it can't compete with NFL, NBA, NHL, or MLB

erase those 4 sports from human history and soccer would be more popular in the US

i love the NHL, the other 3....not so much. NFL is fun sometimes, but there are too many game delays and too little actual game for me to watch regularly, and the NBA has never been interesting to me. The MLB isnt worth talking about....I cant get into baseball, it bores me tremendously.

Soccer is fun to play...it's less fun to watch (though I do enjoy it) and some of my friends have a couple of things that annoy them to no end, the primary one being the diving. Soccer is tough to play, and the players are some of the best athletes in the world...but they clearly overdue things to try and draw a penalty/free kick for themselves at times.

The lack of scoring is another problem...the NHL is already a low-scoring game but theres enough going on to keep you interested, usually, and its a very fast paced game. Even good soccer rarely has more than a small number of goals in a game, and yes, it makes it boring sometimes (again, even to me, and I enjoy the sport)

so go watch some dancing you pansy. why the fuck would I wanna watch some douches kick around a ball for hours without ANYTHING happening? it really is barely even a sport. cheerleading is more of a sport

chicken and egg. Other than david beckham i bet the average american household couldn't name one single profession soccer player.

Soccer primarily spread because of colonialism and the involuntary links it created between cultures. The United States shed itself of British authority before soccer was even created.

Hahahaha, so typical of someone that not only can't appreciate other sports but has to mount personal attacks on others to make his point across.

You should join the Jehovah's Witness.

Probably because USA have always sucked at it, and since they are so proud, they decided to just write it off and ignore it

Its tons of fun to play, but as for watching it really depends on the teams... Some games are incredibly boring (usually teams with tactical/defensive mindset), but those games where teams play offensively and try to score as many goals as possible are awesome

For people saying boring I lol, baseball and golf are a hundred times more boring than football (yes, FOOTBALL, not soccer)

Only the US would call a game played mainly by hand "football" -.-

Seems to me you have some pent up angst and rage against the US.

Or just a good old fashion case of penis envy.

PS: "soccer". Suck it.

I played soccer from when I was five up through high school.

Personally, I found it extremely fun to play; a lot more fun than playing football. However, to watch, it's horrid. There is NOTHING exciting about soccer, it is easy to reach a level of skill that negates any realistic expectation of being fun to watch.

Why? Because people can kick extremely fucking hard. It's simply not fun to watch people kick a ball from one end of the field to another constantly -- especially when someone can do it in about a month or two of training their legs.

Now, dribbling, diving, headbutts, etc... that's where you separate the real talent, but these are not the primary means of playing the game: the primary method of play is kicking, which is, largely, talentless and boring to watch. Not to mention, like everyone else said, all people do is try to put themselves in situations where a ref will call a foul on someone else, try to cheap shot other people when a ref isn't looking, do what they can to get away with whatever illegal gameplay they want, and be constant egotistical assholes on and off the field.

The 150lbs pussy soccer player screaming at the top of his lungs is nothing more than an annoyance and a disgrace. Unfortunately, this describes 90% of all soccer players. Americans want to see badasses that can do things other people can't do -- and see them pitted against other badasses that can do things other people can't do. Nobody wants to see "talent" that's achieved with a few months of training. Additionally, nobody in America wants to watch a sport where they could kick the shit out of everyone playing it because they're 150lbs pussies that constantly bitch, cry, and scream on a field. We want to watch sports where the ATHLETES have the ability to lift us over their head with one hand while simultaneously breaking our back.

Imo, football is an acquired taste. And some never acquire it. It takes a while to get used to the rhythm and for you to get an eye for other than big tackles and constant action. Its not for the ADD.

Its has its faults thought, too few goals is one. Imo, the amount of goals should approach that of hockey. Reviewing situations on video for refs and severe penalties for filming would go a long way.

My theory is that soccer is a vary slow paced sport. It is boring, and a lot of the scores for the early world cup games show that. Who honestly wants to sit on the edge of their seats to see their team tie 0-0? Honestly, the defence or not, the net is the size of a truck. Watching the kids play soccer is more entertaining.

What's puzzled me more is why soccer is so popular. I think I said my theory before but here it is again. It can be played anywhere with a minimal amount of equipment. All you need is a ball and that's it. That's why I think it's so popular in the third world.

Ok...take that match between England & the US. They played 90 minutes. Had a score of 1 vs 1. And the game was over. You almost *never* have a tie in any game in traditional US sports. It was like...hours of watching for nothing.

:\

Yes, can happen, but usually you have an overtime or shootout or something so that somebody walks away with a win. The only "tie" I can ever remember in any major sport is that Philly & Cinncy football game a year or two ago.
