Why do Americans not care about Soccer?

Ok...take that match between England & the US. They played 90 minutes. Had a score of 1 vs 1. And the game was over. You almost *never* have a tie in any game in traditional US sports. It was like...hours of watching for nothing.

Yes, can happen, but usually you have an overtime or shootout or something so that somebody walks away with a win. The only "tie" I can ever remember in any major sport is that Philly & Cinncy football game a year or two ago.

err, before the rule change, NHL had ties.
 
I think Futbol doesn't appeal to the USA as much as other countries because we're so impatient. As for those who say it's not a sport: It requires more strength and stamina than Football, Basketball, or Baseball for 90 Minutes plus stoppage time(no timeouts+tv timeouts) on a field close to double the size of a Football field. The game may look slow paced on TV, but go see one...those guys can MOVE.
 
I thought it was very entertaining. I watched the game beginning to end. America's got a good team. Call it a lucky goal but they were around Englands goal most of the match.
 
because for the majority of the game, the most exciting thing that can ever possibly happen is the ball crossing midfield. No sport game should end in a tie either, sorry but that's fucking boring (when it happens in the NFL its usually because both teams suck ass)

Watch football training if you want to see strength and stamina. Watch basketball training if you want to see strength and stamina. I've never watched hockey training, but I'm guessing they have quite a few workouts to go through, too.

Baseball? Well, personally I think baseball is only slightly above soccer (I don't classify baseball as a sport, either), but I'd have to say you're correct in soccer requiring more stamina, but definitely not more strength than baseball.

You can think what you want about soccer and why people don't like it, but it definitely doesn't require the cream of the crop, athelete-wise, because the field is separated into, basically, quadrants that minimize the amount of stamina and strength required by individual players. The people with real stamina are the centers, followed by halfbacks -- everyone else remains, for the most part, in their own small, designated area of the field.

Conversely, our most popular sport, the NFL - their overseas initiate is a pile of garbage too. Nobody besides the US gives a shit about American football either. It's part of our culture and no other country will embrace it, just like we don't embrace soccer at a professional level in any form.

I also notice today while watching the Nigeria/Argentina match that the players fake being injured way to much. It's almost comical and I have a hard time taking the sport at the international level seriously.

I've seen training first hand for football and trained for basketball when I played in high school(I did the training, but I was not very good at anything other than 10 ft+ feild goals). They've developed their training for the specific needs on those games just as Futbol has also. I would bet on this: Futbol players could keep up with both and last the entire length of Football, Basketball, and Baseball, but those sports players couldn't last a 90 minute Futbol game.

The field isn't as separated as you think, overlapping is not uncommon and every player at a college level and above understands this and will play any position they're currently in during a play.

You did bring up another reason why it's so popular that I didn't, because ANYone can play it and make a difference for their team if they try.

Every other sport on the planet requires both. Soccer players train for one thing, and one thing only: stamina. Even then, the amount of training they do comparatively is pathetic in comparison to any sport requiring a combination of strength and stamina because of the separate areas of the field.

I'd like to know the soccer you watch that has players from every position running around the entire field (ie: forwards running down by the fullbacks and vice-versa) instead of having only a few players (centers / halfbacks) doing so. And yes, there is a little bit of overlap, and of course if the ball is right outside of someone's typical area they are going to go for it if they're the only person around. However, they are assigned certain areas of the field and do not leave those areas unless absolutely necessary -- it's a judgment call for the player (such as the ball being a few feet away from where they're typically supposed to be enclosed).

Also, I think the idea that players from other sports not being able to last 90 minutes in a soccer game is wrong. Sure, if you take a lineman and throw him into a game of soccer as a center hes going to last a minute, tops. You take a runningback, wide reciever, tight end (basically, anyone that constantly runs during their plays) and throw him in as a forward or fullback (not center/halfbacks since they wouldn't have the 100% stamina training), I bet they can get the 90 minutes done just as well.

you got to be kidding... those kicks take a tremendous amount of strength, and it's core strength that is needed.

Because soccer is fucking boring...

Granted I don't watch any sports but I would rather watch golf then soccer, that's how bad it is.
 
It's boring. As is baseball (and I'm American). If you want to watch a really balls-to-the-wall exciting sport, look up Australian-rules football. It's awesome.

And wtf is up with a tie in the WORLD CUP? I don't mind ties in the normal season, but in the WORLD CUP it seems like someone should win.

Think what you want. I guarantee you that if you train for a few months you can easily kick the ball as far as a soccer player. This is from experience -- and it's no secret. The reason they look like they're crazy-strong is because the stamina training they do leaves them with a body fat of 1%, about 150-160lbs, with most of it in their legs. They might look like they're badasses with their shirts off on TV -- and coming from a 3rd world country where most people look like the kids on scam-charity commercials, but I assure you, they're pussies and it's all ego.
