Why did you pick your current car?

I needed a cheap, functional baby hauler. I grabbed my fully loaded Malibu Maxx for $15k. It was a progam car with only 2k miles on it. I got 34k miles/33 months worth of warranty. Biggest back seat I've ever sat it for a sedan. Plus I can fit 10' pieces of lumber in there if needed...which I have needed.

It drives like a turd, but gets decent milage, has comfortable seats and has the best butt warming heater I've used. Can't complain much.

If I shift from 1st to 4th at 2k rpms and feather the throttle I can get 17/26.

If I drive it like its meant to be driven (which is mostly what I do)... 15/23

I do mostly city driving (traffic on the freeways) and get on average 16.5mpg combined.

Doesn't require premium, but can definitely tell a difference between 87 and 91, and the owners manual recommends it
 
I have always liked GM and when I was looking back in 1999 I checked specs, exterior looks, interior looks and wether I liked the dash layout. Trunk space is also important, as I need to be able to carry 2 golf bags now and then. 1999 Pontiac Grand Prix 3800 V6 normally aspirated model.
 
Got a 2007 Lexus IS350.

Going from a piece of shit FWD 2004 Acura TL 6-MT to the rear drive Lexus was a revelation. The IS is a small car and I'm a big dude, but I fit just fine. Compact sport sedans are my thing and the IS is fast, reliable, has an excellent sound system, and is an all around superior car for the segment at my cost (got a swell deal from the dealer).

It is not without its flaws, had a few recalls this past year and I installed a TOMS mechanical LSD because the "electronic" LSD just can't cope and was tired of the inside tire blowing up in smoke in the corners on track days, but overall my experience with the car has been stellar.
 
2002 Blazer.

Needed to hold 4 dogs, luggage and have a hefty towing rating.

The Blazer fits all the requirements.....dogs all fit, carries all our luggage well and has a 5200# tow rating.

In 8 1/2 years and 235K miles, it's been a great vehicle.
 
98 corolla, was my first car from when I was 16 and my parents bought it. Have kept it running till I can really afford a car I want. 40mpg in the city, 44hwy, decent enough horsepower to get around the mountains......hard to beat really.
 
75 BMW 2002
I was actually looking for another 914 ( wanted to swap a WRX motor in one ) when I stumbled across it for 500$, I'm a car guy and have rebuilt more than a few in my day, so driving an old car isn't a sacrifice like some of you would believe. It's quicker than my friends STI, looks cool and get's fantastic mileage for what it is ( 28-30 average ). As a bonus my cars don't loose value every year.
 
2002 Ford Escape

It was cheap, in decent shape, and does pretty well in snow. Really, I was looking for something smaller like a Focus since I'm usually the only one in it, but the price on this was quite good.
 
'93 Mercury Topaz

We bought our first home a couple years ago and I had to sell my '65 Nova and find something cheap. The Topaz fit the bill at $600.
 
06 2.5L Altima with 5 speed

It had to be a manual.

I got the chance to see how just about every plant builds cars and one trip thru Ford and GM was enough to scratch them off my buying list (I spent much more than one trip in these plants), coupled with the lack of anything interesting with a manual, and the fact Chizzler was making mostly junk, and the all around boring cars from Honda and Toyota, I ended up in a Nissan. Granted the accord was nearly the same car, but Honda offered no discounts to anyone, Nissian I got 2.5% over invoice, basically saved the taxes, got the car for ~18k list was ~$26 (CAD)

Its got a nice balance between power and economy, not going to win many races, but its pushing about as much power as you realistically should thru the front wheels. I replaced the stock continental garbage with several choices, latest are Yoki's, it is still wayy to easy to spin the front tires.

I've posted a few times about trying to find a replacement, but nothing seems to fit as nicely. I bought the GF an A6 audi 4.2 quattro (01), we took it on a road trip and after about 3 hours I was wishing we were in the Altima, granted for <1 hour the audi is way nicer, but its not nearly as comfortable.
 
2010 speed3 - it's crazy, it's got a goofy ass grin, too much power in a FWD car, it's got torque steer, the interior is cheap, the car is cheap, I bought a bright blue one, and I am so broke that I can have the discipline to get it to almost 30 mpg by keeping off the gas. But after being so depressed that I wouldn't even get up to do things for over a year, I got a job, saved up some money and bought it.

A car with a grin that makes me grin.

My current 2007 Accord coupe is my favorite car I've ever owned. I bought it to replace my 2005 civic I'd had for a year or so.

My 2005 Civic got hit 2-3 days after i bought it and then it sat for around 60 days in a body shop and what not... and was never the same... which was mostly why I sold it.

I bought it... drove it for a couple of hours and then some ass hole hit it and drove off. Then the car I got back from the repair shop wasn't the same car I'd bought.

I bought the 2005 civic to replace the 1996 Accord I had that was stolen.
 
When it was out, there was no car as fast for the price or even close to the price for what you got. Even today 5+ years later it'd still be competitive in it's price range if it would still being sold new. Sure, I have to live with a car not being a looker but I took care of that with mods.

2010 Ford Fusion Hybrid

Bought it because it looked great, got great MPGs and I got a 3,400 dollar tax credit on it plus employee pricing(dad retired from Ford). Out the door I paid 28,100 for it, invoice at the time was 27,900, then tack on the 3,400 tax credit and you are looking at 24,700. And despite being a hybrid it actually drives pretty nice, and it can cruise on the highway literally all day(can easily get 700 miles on an all highway tank of gas) and not be uncomfortable for the occupants. And yet I even took it on the Dragon's tail in TN/NC and it handles the twisties just fine(for a mid size car at least)

And did I mention the great MPG? 38-40MPG in the wintertime and 46-48MPG in the summer time. Oh and it still has one of the best looking dash gauges/speedo.

I was looking for a large, comfortable, RWD, V8 sedan to drive to work and haul the family and at times coworkers around.

This car has all the options I want... automatic climate control, 8-way power & memory driver seat, 6 way power passenger seat, automatic headlamps, nice stereo, power windows, locks, wing mirrors, etc, auto-dim rear view mirror, remote trunk release, key less entry, sunroof, steering wheel controls for cruise control, audio and climate control, pretty good stereo and a large trunk.

The car is currently 15 years old, has 160k and runs/looks new. I can't see replacing it any time soon.

- like visiting gas stations and tire dealers
- Liked my '08 CTS but it lacked performance. Liked my Corvette but it was very impractical. Best of both worlds.
