teachers these days get $40+/hour,
what im happily making in a week u can make in about two days.

you mean like the exact opposite, right? teachers are notoriously underpayed. base salary is like $31k

no dude, about 2 years ago in h.s. i asked my math teacher what he gets paid an hour he said $37, by now im guessing he shoulda have couple of raises...

and i doubt he was lying, he was an honest teacher... besides that was in NY, ive seen those teachers with nice mustangs and bm's... either way they get a good pay.

lol. i gotta plenty of close friends who work as teachers in nyc. trust me, unless you have a phd there's no way you're gonna be making that much teaching in schools

Umm NYC is diff from NY state. We all know that NYC teachers are underpaid. For some reason, people get the idea that NYC schools are supposed to be great just because the city is so big.

I graduated from college almost 4 years ago. I'm working at Walmart right now. I'm doomed! :(

doing what? cashier/cart retriever?

go up the mgmt chain. i keep hearing walamrt commercials about how well they promotes from within.

or jump to sams club.

I do a lot of stuff. I stock shelves, help unload the trucks, push carts, do carryouts, and sometimes I even get to clean up spills! Unfortunately, I'm not very good at doing any of those things, and I doubt they'd want me as management. I can write a damn good history paper though!

You got a college degree in something that you should have known was not applicable to anything except teaching and research. If you wanted to not work at Wal-Mart, you probably should have done something else.

Your loss :)

If your 4 years out of school and havent still moved to another job it shows that your scared of change. Its really not about ambition but thinking ouside of yourself. When you were in school did u think what am i gonna do when i graduate with this degree? I better get experience in my field and such.

Now that you have this degree and are 4 yrs out of school you need to think out of the box and not neccesarilly go for jobs that are in your field of study. Look at Online sites and maybe try to get into HR jobs within corporatations. That way you get into a desk job and move from there.

If your stuck in retail then you should for sure look at a better paying reatail postion in those high end shops like nordtroms that pay commsion for there shoe sales man. They avg about $15+ hr.

BTW - I have 2 college degrees (Bachelores in FINANCE and COMPUTER INFO SYSTEMS) and it took me over a year to find a job. One person mentioned somewhere in this thread in American society its not what you know but who you know. I totally agree with that statement. Once you even get a job that you want if your not outgoing and not a people person...good luck moving up the corporate BS ladder. If your charasmatic and have no brains (ie a blonde big boobed chearleader type) you will allways find a job.

boy when i was a teen i already knew a history degree was going to do squat in helping me paying the bills i needed to pay.

correct, connections help you, especially when you're light on exp, have the wrong background, etc. but always overall, to get in, and to move ahead.

or if you're a female cracking a male predominant group that doesn't do physical stuff. but there's a lot of competition bet. female applicants in big corps for those kinds of spots.

especially IT in large public companies. less balanced in small/mid/private companies where people where many hats.
