Why did Green Day hate America?

Stop Drop and Roll album. It is like a totally awesome, kick ass, giggle out loud at how good it is album. So when I found out that the group is really Green Day in disguise I was puzzled as to how a group of musicians talented enough to make this album could put out songs that sucked as hard as Wake Me When September Comes. The conclusion I have reached is that Green Day hated America for awhile and recorded Wake Me as a way of hurting us. Now they seem to have gotten over it.

Thoughts?

I always thought the wake me up when september ends song was about getting out of the terror-filled post-9/11 world.

Just talking about it is not supporting the troops. Mods, you best lock this thread now before we get anyone killed.

that "has been" band

hating on the man that nearly ruined the US != hating America.

Bush != Carter

Carter = worst president

therefore Bush != worst president

Now if you want Bush for number 2 go right ahead.

Green Day Blow. they had a few catchy tunes, but they suck, American Idiot made their position on America clear.

They are part of the music I listen to that I don't pay attention to the meaning of the lyrics (as in, just listen because the music is good).

There are only a few songs that I listen to because of the lyrics or what the band stands for. 99% of what I listen to is just because the song is good, fits the mood, etc.

I never thought about that. I always thought they were anti America because of some of the lyrics.

Wow, zero to P&N in one post.

Also, the one Foxboro Hottubs song I've heard sucks, and so does bush. Sit on that.

They're smart. Hating on America/our President is cool here. Why else would an album titled, "American Idiot" be such a big seller?
I doubt they've gotten over it or maybe they've just grown up.

they do it cause its hip, plain and simple. They made more money off that last heaping shit of an album/tour than they had for the decades before.

They went from an influential punk band to a red tie-black shirt, eye-liner wearing d-bags.

Why are we talking about America like it's an unpopular school girl who just got dissed on Myspace?

Green Day stopped making good records after Insomniac. Nimrod wasn't awful, but it was clearly a step down. I still think Kerplunk is the best they put out, followed closely by Insomniac (if you're only familiar with the singles from that album, those arent nearly the best songs on it). I also like Shenanigans, which is a B-sides comp. Says a lot about what they chose to leave off of some of their newer albums, arguably the best material.

American Idiot is basically a poorly executed concept album. Warning was sort of a weird album, really didn't make a whole lot of sense.
