Is the OP having a blonde moment?

Anyone else remember when we were HAPPY to have anything faster than 2400 BAUD?
33.6K dial-up was IMPRESSIVE when it first came out!
56K was AWESOME!

If one could fully achieve 56K speeds, its nothing to scoff at as 6-7KB/s is pretty decent even for today. Problem was line quality and distance issues. Ironically I got 48K speeds (not true speeds though) on my lappy when ever I was in an area that could easily have broadband connections while I had only 42K in my home (45K with a desktop modem). Even with those speeds, the best download speeds I got was around 4KB/s which is really 32/36Kb/s.... The internet is painful to browse nowadays with anything less than 40K connection. Try 28K dialup, you'll realize how bad it is..

I had dialup from 1998 (First comp) to 2003
I had Satellite broadband from 2003 (Second Computer) to 2006
As of September im on 1.5/256 DSL via a fiber line to our little community. For now 1.5 is as fast as is availble..

Its the same wires that are used by DSL no? So why was dial up so slow and crap and DSL isnt, considering its the same wall connection thats used. How come they didnt just use DSL or somthing faster to begin with?

Evil corporations like Walmart and Microsoft.

why did the original pentium exist? couldnt they just make a core 2 duo right from the start? I mean, the chips are made of mostly the same stuff.

why didn't they just make high definition TV back in 1946?

what were they thinking waiting 60 years to sell these flat LCD and plasma TV's? 😕

I remember upgrading to 28.8 from 14.4. It was the most amazing thing. Sadly, I don't even remember when we got broadband. Going to 28.8 was more significant than getting broadband.

We had access to silicon for as long as we've existed, why'd it take so long for it to be used for processors?

i mean, why did we have giant mainframes when a computer with more processing power can fit in the palm of your hand?
