Why can't people spell ridiculous correctly?

Everyday I see at least 5 people spell that word incorrectly.... why is it so hard to spell it with an 'i'? I just moved to the east coast and almost all my friends here spell it wrong and I've noticed a lot of people do it on here too. What is even worse is after I spell it correctly in an AIM converstation, people still proceed to spell it wrong...

Ok, now go ahead and mock me and find my spelling and grammar mistakes, but at least I can spell ridiculous.

Because it isn't pronounced with an "i" in many portions of the world, it is pronounced with an "e". Thus, "rediculous" is how it SHOULD be spelled. We are just starting the ball rolling so that eventually dictionaries will end the silly "i" spelling version.

;) hahaha.. nice

I almost always check my spelling in a dictionary if I am not sure about the correct spelling.
Spell Check really has made people too lazy and stupid. Automation is good, but eventually it causes loss of training.

Why would that bother you so bad? You know what is meant. Geez, I wish that was my biggest problem. Might be people are screwing with you, if you see it at least 5 times a day. ;)

Which portions of the world pronounce it with an "e" and how do they do that? Re as in red? Red iculous? Re as in reed? Ree diculous? I know of only one pronunciation for it.
Ri as in rid - as in I'd like to get rid of anyone who misspells ridiculous. :)

What does "ridonculous" mean? It is one of the most ricockulous sounding words I've ever heard.

Note: I've used recockulous for about a decade just to get a laugh out of people. Think about it for a bit, it may eventually hit you.

If that were true, the misspelling would be "reediculous."

My pet peeve is the frequently incorrect use of the word "loose" instead of "lose", as in "I always seem to loose my car keys".

I pronounce the word as it's spelled... so I don't have a problem spelling it. *shrugs*

Believe or not, lots of people say ridiculous, with a 'red' sound.

I can see I caused more harm then good.

That is what I said above. Many people use the "red" sound, and many people use the "reed" sound. Those two groups use an "e" in the spelling due to their location's typical pronunciation.

I feel the world is better with regional variations. Having different people talk and spell differently makes travelling more interesting, gives us identity, and just adds character to the world. I don't feel we should try to force rigid rules to stop these beautiful differences. Let language flow, move, and shift courses like a river over time. I don't want to be stuck with "thee" and "thy". I like using modern versions instead. I updated my sig. to reflect my thoughts.
