its an indian name, so i guess 'a' has a has a different way of being pronounced in india as opposed to the US

So would that make the pronunciation of your nick "Cul - ster"?

There are a lot of common American names that begin with the sylable "kay". With just a quick glance at your name written somewhere, it's easy to transpose the "l" and the "y". Even if that doesn't happen, the muscle memory "wants" to say the first sylable as "kay".
