vB may have a working search function, but fusetalk has a superior layout IMO

I don't need search. If they wanted to fix the search in fusetalk they could! You better believe it. I can search my own Forums folder in my email client, works for me.

You have forum threads in your email client?...why would you want to go and do something like that for?

Why? Are you kidding? I get a lot of email, some goes in my Inbox, some in specific folders dedicated to specific sources (e.g. organizations I belong to), all forums posts go in my Forums folder. Without that, it would be an absolute mess.

Threads are neatly organized. One click has all posts by date, another by thread title. It's very handy.

Too bad it'll probably be done loading sometime after they decide to finally switch over. Seriously, the tab has been loading for 5 minutes now, nothing.

VB is far superior to fuse talk, VB has tons more options and way more modifiable. they been saying they are gonna update it for a year now at least, ill believe it when i see it. This forum has been broken for months if not years.

Customization and mods are not something we need. If you need any proof of this go check out some of the abortions of color and flashing pictures most forums are.

It is true. The flashy stuff will just degrade the total experience. The lack of flashiness is a giant strong point of Anandtech Forums currently. I hope they are not fucking it up. Let's stick to information, not gimmicks.

I still don't get why everyone is afraid of custom avatars. You can disable viewing of avatars and inline images in your control panel. They can even be disabled by default, and anyone wanting to see avatars (I certainly want custom avatars) can enable them.

Plus there can be limitations regarding size and content.
Distractions, distractions. I have too many already. Custom avs are just adding to the pile of junk in your life, decreasing the focus.

This is what I feared.

Anyway, I'm not going to mess with it while it's in beta. I have other things to do, more important. When I have to migrate, then I will.

I know my way around FT pretty well now, know how to do this and that. The search? When I need to use it I usually do OK with it. I'm not too concerned about that. I get dissed once in a while because a thread is already out there on the subject, but I don't let it bother me too much. I say, "so what?"

I am subscribed to quite a few forums. Most I visit infrequently. This is certainly my busiest for me all in all. If all that stuff was in my inbox it would drive me nuts.

The new forums are terrible, and this beta is pointless.

What are we supposed to be testing - Performance testing, functional testing? Are the defects being logged and communicated?

This whole process is a shambles. Just fix fusetalk and stay with it.

I prefer the look of these forums, but I don't like all the issues. Also, I hadn't even heard of the beta forums until now.

It looks awful.

I thought AT was supposed to be a somewhat professionally ran site. If this is the case, then why don?t they handle the migration with a structured approach?

I presume they published the URL to start testing, but they don?t appear to have any kind of test/acceptance criteria in place [performance testing, functional testing], or dedicated testers who can log their outcomes, etc, etc?

Load testing can commence once they have something close to the final release of the forums published.

I suppose this new forum could be a like-for-like migration, but they still need a clear set of requirements published and accepted by the AT community beforehand.

No one seems to know what they are doing.

I think a pretty much one size fits all is better, which FT mostly is. It's not very customizable. But the fact that it isn't being supported is a big minus. Hopefully VB will be supported, and customizable to the extent that you can do away with annoyances. Wishful thinking, probably. I will not test the beta. I'm sure it will be annoying enough when rolled out.
