Having to constantly go back to the main page and click on a new section is quite annoying. Definitely is what sets this board apart from a lot of other forums as well.

I agree, it would be nice to have that. vBulletin just works though, so I'm willing to sacrifice that, if need be.

Jesus christ you are all bitching about the default look of VB when it's completely moddable. It's like complaining about an OS because of the default fucking wallpaper.

Yes. For a bunch of people who go around trying to outman each other, this is a very prissy bunch of complaints. Dang.

Anyway, I tried it, but it's slow. Pardon me if I don't want to experience the nostalgia of waiting 5 minutes or more for a page to load as was normal when I had a 2400baud connection to AOL in 1995. I assume this will be fixed later, so it's not a dealbreaker problem.

Yes, I agree, people complaining about it and it's not even a final version. What a bunch of ingrates.

I love it, can't wait for the move. FINALLY we will have more features and FINALLY they will work!

I give two shits about the look, the settings on it are set at fubar levels and I'd rather stay here than move if whatever idiot decision group leaves them as set.

Random thoughts on forum design
---------------------------------------

. email redirect to last read post, not beginning of thread.

When thread activity (after replying) is configured to send you an email, it would be extremely useful for the link in the email to direct to the last read post instead of the beginning of the post. The lack of this ability may be my single biggest gripe about ft.

. Should be easy to navigate with as few as levels as possible.

This is one of the great things about the current layout. The list on the left gets to 99% of the most used areas and yet there is no need to back up to go to another area.

. Configurability.

Need to be able to configure threads/page and thread-posts/page. Current max is 100 which seems artificially low.

. Mess, diversions.

Don't need or want stuff to pop up everywhere the mouse hovers. However, a popup description when hovering over a button is useful since icon representation is not always obvious.

Yep. People complain about the "vanilla"-ness of vB, but that's been the default template of the software for a while because it is so simple and plain. The good thing about vB and one thing that makes it superior to FT is that there are many readily available plugins, themes, and graphics that can be added. That's the reason there is a plugin suggestion thread in "Suggestion Box" (though I honestly didn't think DW would/will actually implement most of those suggestions).

Anyone who thinks vB is crap needs to go out and look at all the custom setup forums that use vB, and see what's possible with it. Yes, there are many forums that use the default settings, but that doesn't mean AT will. The forums, after more than a year, are still in beta status. There was a preview of what AT-FT-Styled vB would look like, and it wasn't pretty, but hopefully they've worked on it since then and/or have other styles planned. Keep your fingers crossed.

many of us came to AT for the simple elegance of FT...
we dont need tons of images and plugins. We want a professional clean looking forums, which are customization free, image free, and safe for work.
