why aren't slot-load drives more popular?

compatibility with those damn tiny disc no one uses anyways

Agreed, I have never used one ever since cd-roms came out. I think only once someone gave me a "business card cd" type of thing, but of course that's just trash not even worth loading.

thanks for all the responses....

I would love to get hold of some mini-CDR's but the local stores (in Switzerland) price them almost higher than regular CDRs...

where do you folks buy mini CDR's and how much do you pay for them??

and by the way, i'm not sure about the PC drives, but a friend of mine tried a mini-CD single in a car player and the slot load had no trouble at all... apparently they have an alignment/centering mechanism (makes sense they would...)

I use em for work... there are a couple programs that are helpful to always have with me (various diagnostics checks and boot-from-cd operating systems), and it's a lot easier to carry a mini cd in a pocket than a normal-sized disk.

It's a lot easier to carry a thumbdrive in your pocket.

I thought the same thing, but some motherboards can't boot to usb, but can boot to CD. Ah well.

Check in Hot Deals. I believe there was a place that was selling various unbranded media for uber-cheap.

All car CD players are slot load. Ever see a tray in a car? If they can do that so easily, why can't they make every drive slot load?

cause ppl who buy a $20k car are willing to pay $50 extra for the slot load, but us nerds who check every price on newegg will not???

Oh please. If it was cheaper and practical to put a tray drive in a car, it would be there.

My slot load drive was like $38. It was about $5 more than a tray load drive.

Last time I got a slot loading drive, it was noticably louder than my tray loading version (same brand same speed)
