Why aren't all beer bottles twist-offs?

Is this a cost issue? Twist offs are so easy. It's like all the "craft" and "good" beers are traditional pop-tops. Then of course all the major US brewers (Bud, Coors etc) are twist offs.

BTW on my second Shiner Bock. Many more to come tonight. Yes, it's a twist-off :D

pop tops hold in the carbonation better which in turn keeps the beer fresher for longer.

The Right Noble Fraternal Brotherhood of Church Key Machinists holds undue influence over the craft beer brewers. The big boys can afford to piss them off.

I prefer pry-offs. They're more aesthetically pleasing, and more comfortable to drink from.

I also prefer to pry my cap off my bottle, if only because there's an "old timey" feel to it.

They don't want to buy new machines.

I toured a winery recently and they were talking about wanting to switch to screw tops, but they said the cost of getting new machines wasn't worth it.

also, beer snobbery.

"we're a real brewery. everyone knows real breweries don't use twist off."

because there are still a few real men out there who rip off bottle tops with their teeth... as we don't drink sissy beers.

Friend of mine likes the pop-tops because he can reuse the bottles to do a homebrew. Can't do that with twist-offs.

I was surprised when I discovered Leinenkugel 1888 Bock has a twist-off instead of pop-top.

Those of us who bust the whole top of the bottle off on the edge of the counter and drink out of jagged remains look down on you pussies in disgust.

I think cheaper and easier, b/c a machine can pop the top, safely, on top of a shit load of bottles all day.

you would do it home-brewing, anyway, as you just need a cheap bottle topper and some unspent caps. You can't really use screw caps for that--not that homebrewing is a good comparison, just to show that the procedure is more universal and useful than are screw caps.

oh, and the freshest way to keep, transport, and store beer is with cans. Much fresher than a keg, too.

I'd prefer this type. What's the name of it?
