ATi - because they're the fastest, they deliver the best IQ, they don't cheat or seek to actively deceive customers and they don't bully people who publish benchmarks showing them in a bad light.

fanboys only hurt themselves. I buy the best bang for my buck regardless of company.

Those companies have no loyalty to me, why should I to them?

No, no loyalty here, i go with best price per/performance! best bang for the $$$.

Im only loyal to AMD, they helped me through some tuff times. Provided the cheapes setups with some of the best performances!! and boy were they some tuff times ;)

first card was a trident pci. Didnt know what an agp slot was for lol !

second card, bout a week later, VooDoo bansheeee. Had to of been one of my best buys. 100$ and gave me 60-70 fps in quake2

third card, was trying to buy for the future(first and last mistake with vidcards), Geforce 256 ddr PRE ORDERED!! $400 got it for quake3! well, not only was quake3 disappointing but my "buy for the future" card sucked wind @ 20-30 fps with medium to high eye candy!! i was pi$$3d, first and last time NV screwed me. although i got to admit, It had the best IQ i had seen from a graphics card thus far.

Forth card was the Goldsample gf3 ti200 @ $150, great card and good buy. Modded it and took it from 200/450 to 265/480 or 490 IQ was not so good though, but i got good fps! which was important at the time.

Fifth and last card i bought was the ATI AIW 8500dv. Worked right out of the box! great feature, but most of all, the IQ was unbelivable. I read all these reviews on IQ for the ATI card and always thought "HOW GOOD COULD IT REALLY BE." Well, let me tell you, i was impressed. The only reason that i tried it was for the feature. i really wanted and need TV on my comp. I know i could have just gotten a tv card, but i also wanted to capture vids, use the firewire, and do some gaming with it and just see how good the IQ was. As you can see im pretty happy with the purchase and will now not only include fps, but IQ when i get a card...
I got to mention one thing though, THERE TECH SUPPORT SUCKS BALLS. you only get a 30 day free phone tech support from date of purchase. Not noticing this i missed the date when i needed it most for vid capute. Was a nightmare getting things to work right. In the end i found out that all i needed was either Win 2k, winXP, or win ME. wasnt paying attention to the system requirements. Never thought that 98 would be such a problem!! Any ways, i feel they should at least extend the free support for around 90 days. Gives you time to set the card up and play with it awhile.

this is my opinion and im sticking with it!

I have liked ati since the 8500 first came out-good hardware but rather cruddy drivers at the time-now they are producing world class graphics cards with drivers that are better than nvidia's.

I also like ati because I enjoy eye candy and good fps-something none of my nvidia cards could do.

I've liked the nvidia cards I've owned, but not overly impressed with them.

cards:

TNT2M64
Geforce 2 mx 400
Geforce 2 GTS
Geforce 4 TI4200
Geforce 4 TI4600
Radeon 8500
Radeon 9700pro
Radeon 9800pro

I've owned:

Matrox Mystique
Matrox M3d
V550 TNT
3dfx 2000
Guilemont SDR Gforce1
Asus 6800 DDR Geforce1
Leadtek DDR Geforce1
Radeon1 DDR
Radeon 7500
Radeon 8500
Radeon 9500np>9700hack: current

Traded The leadtek DDR for the Radeon DDR and noticed quite a difference in IQ. Though both cards were about equal in benches, the Radeon seemed to maintain a higher average framerate. I was a big into Quake III, CS and MS Combat sim2 at the time. I never ever seemed to have the driver problems people mentioned, probably because I run Win98se. I got the Radeon just after a new driver set was released that really cured most ills people were having.

I am Ati all the way now, and nVidia will have to straighten-out it's poor company policy decisions before I would even consider buying another nVidia product, though I do love my nForce2 based Epox 8RDA.

i am more loyal to nvidia since i've never had a problem with any of their products. their drivers have always had better 2d options for me. granted im not much of a gamer, but when i did play games, never had a problem with nvidia. ati sometimes had problems.

same with 3dfx. they might not have been the fastest all the time, but there was never a hassle.

I'm not loyal to either.

Price and performance along with results is what gets my hard earned dollar. A few years ago nVidia was on top so I bought their cards. Now ATI has the price/performance advantage so I have ATI cards in my systems.

If it swings the other way and I'm in the market for a new card I'll go back to nVidia.

I'm not loyal to any company. Let's just say that I'll love a company if a company loves me. And we all know that all these big companies don't care one bit about any of their customers, only about getting the money out of our pockets. I just buy whatever I honestly think is the best product or "bang for buck" out there. I've been buying ATI for about 3 years because their cards have always been, for me, better performance for a lower price. If nVidia were to have a good, affordable card out that is a good purchasing choice when I need one, then I would buy nVidia. However, every time I've bought a video card, ATI seemed to be a better choice. Even at this moment, ATI seems like a better choice to me.

Not loyal here either. Like most people are saying what ever company has the better "bang for your buck" card thats what I'll get.

nvidia did a great job with nforce2, finally onboard video that doesn't steal system memory bandwidth,, the FSB of a high end athlon uses 400Mhz (effective) memory bandwidth and the chipset has dual channel ddr400, meaning an effective 800mhz memory bandwidth, so there is much to spare for the onboard gf4mx, which is by far the best onboard video built into any chipset to date.

that being said i think 3dfx had a better trade off with speed/iq per dollar back in the day with voodoo3, and i think at the time voodoo5 opened everyones eyes to well done FSAA, maybe a bit too slow and a bit too late... but when everyone was and still is playing games as old as CS, speed isn't a huge issue, so yeah i liked voodoo5, but without real winxp drivers, i had two choices and was surprisingly impressed with my ati 8500 which lasted forever for a $100 card, and last year i got a 9500 pro and have never looked back, great work ATI on going from a company who didn't know what 3d was to a company that is now leading the pack.

i wouldn't trust them with a southbridge or northbridge just yet, but with time maybe i'll give em a shot.

also i like the idea of 1 company being responsible for everything the end user recieves, i'd be more apt to buy nvidia cards if i could get them manufactured by nvidia , im scared about the sub-par 2d quality ive seen on a handful of 3rd party nvidia cards.
as i run 1600x1200@100hz

My first card, from when I first built my very first PC, by myself (instead of buying complete rigs) was a Voodoo 3 3500 TV AGP. I was happy with that and thoroughly impressed with the TV tuner.

Then I got a Geforce 2MX... I was content with that, especially since my beloved 3DFX was not there any more... My next card after that was the Gainward Ti 4200, which lead me to hate Gainward for I had the infamous Pink Screen of Death syndrome with my Ti 4200(although I don't hold it against them any more) . But, I actually eventually sent back my Ti 4200 to Gainward and they replaced it. However, rather than having RMA'd in the first place, I went and bought myself a Radeon 9700. I hated it, and I hated ATI for every time I tried to play BF1942 my system would Lock up. So the next day after having bought the card, I tried to take it back to the store where I bought it (Beyond PC), but they said it would be 25% restocking fee (of 360 = ~ 90 USD), so I took it back home tried it for another 7 days. At the end of the 7 days I figured the heck with it, I'll lose my 90 USD and go get a Ti 4600. And so I did... Hence I currently run an MSI Ti 4600 on my system.

I hear people say that the ATIs new drivers are better, but I still read about some horror stories here and there... But then I hear all this nVidia scandals and how their performance is not up to par, and I am currently undecided which way to go... On one hand I supposedly have the better performer and on the other hand, I have the more reliable drivers... Decisions, decision... My loyalty? The better product...

My last half dozen cards(only those that I owned and were run in my main rig)-

Ti4200
R9500Pro
GF2Pro
Kyro2
GeForceDDR
Voodoo3

Biggest concern for me is pretty much always drivers. If XGI comes out with solid drivers and is very competitive on a price/performance basis(without the issues of Xabre of course), I'd proably go with them next. Right now with wide spread reports of driver glitches with the FX I've been holding off on it(although I'm a bit doubtful to most of the claims, better safe then sorry), already tried the R3x0 line and was absolutely blown away by how bad the drivers were, so I'm staying away from ATi as there isn't anyone I trust to state drivers are good anymore and I'm not burning up my money again on their parts(former victim of a RagePro also ;) ) for probably half a dozen years or so(my general rule of thumb, CreativeLabs might get another shot in my rig in mid '04 :p ). Since '99, I've been finding myself going back to nV time and time again over driver issues, so if the XGI is yet another typical SiS part I'll likely end up going nV again mainly as they haven't let me down yet on the driver front, not due to any loyalty. Actually, if Matrox ever got real in the 3D space, or 3DLabs made a viable effort to come in to the consumer market I'd give their boards a whirl too.

Having owned various Nvidia cards over the years I`ve always had excellent stability with Nvidia drivers,as to my current Sapphire 9700NP ,I`ve to say so far I`ve had big fat 0 driver problems which goes to show how much their drivers have improved.

already tried the R3x0 line and was absolutely blown away by how bad the drivers were, so I'm staying away from ATi as there isn't anyone I trust to state drivers are good anymore

I guess the only real person that can test the quality of the drivers is you, bottom line its what you`re happy with that counts,so far IMHO I`m very happy with ATi drivers and I don`t say that lightly.

:)

Even with the early drivers on my 8500 I only had one problem-needed to enable tv out to get ground control to work-ONE problem.

My msi ti4400 had more severe problems but it wasn't producing artifiacts-just slow running with very bad fps in all games. I tried it on 3 different systems all with fresh formats and I finally had to return it for a refund.

But I will buy a nvidia card again if they step up to the plate and make a good card with non-cheating drivers for a decent price-but I'm just not seeing that happen any time soon.
