initially came here for tech support, then hit up the FS/T forum, then Hot Deals, and OT followed suit. Hard to believe it's been more than 4 years

I originally came here to try to help others in General Hardware because I was disgusted with the constant outages at HardForum. Then I discovered Off Topic and the rest, as they say, is history.

I was shown the forums when I wanted to buy something (don't remember what). I then got addicted to Hot Deals and eventually made it to ATOT.

Was 18ish and my old computer I had was a POS at the time. This was back in 1997 or 1998. Friend told me to try and build one like he just built, a celeron 300 overclocked to 450. Said it was just as fast as the brand new pentium 2 450's that were like $2000+ and he spent like $300 on all parts to do it himself. I was a poor young airman at the time so the thought intrigued me since I was a comuter SOFTWARE geek (ie programmer) but really wasn't that much into hardware at the time. He told me he learned everything he needed to know from this website. www.anandtech.com

Well, 2 week later, I was the proud owner of a celeron 333@500 and have been coming back ever since.

How did AT Forums get so popular?
Just like everything else that is cool, once word gets out about it the idiots join in swelling the ranks and lowering the quality. ATOT is a prime example of that.
