in this country when sugar and refined carbohydrates are a greater threat to our health?

The only fat that needs to be completely avoided is trans-fat, which is a staple in processed foods.

Marketing. It's easier to make things taste good with less fat, but try and get rid of sugar and carbs, and everything starts sucking quickly.

I don't care what it is, but if you have a physical health problem, do something about it...I'm blessed with a good metabolism, sure, but I just can't stand overweight people.

I drink many sodas a day, I eat when I feel hungry, and when I eat I overeat. If I could just cut out all sodas and drink water, and eat regular sized meals I'd drop a few pounds. No one in my family is as chunky as I am. I'm not obese but I'm a little on the chunky side.

Fat can be good for you. Fat is the only substance that doesn't impact your blood sugar and it provides essential fatty acids that you can't get from any other source.

The US began it's epidemic of obesity and became fatter than ever with the low-fat fad.

In 1999, the average American ate 158 pounds of caloric sweeteners (prinicipally refined sugar and high fructose corn syrup). That's about 5x more than the French.

I have avoided fat foods because they are easier to get calories from, which is generally what I avoid. 50 gram snack of sugar has 200 vs. 450 out of a 50 gram snack of fat (if such a thing existed). I don't hate fat though and would often prefer to ingest it than carbs, depending on what the carb is. My priority is almost always calories and other than protein I often don't care what the other macronutrients are.

Some too much work, some too much food and some can't be bothered.

People have other priorities then be healthy at this moment in time....

Eat less, do a bit of exercise and you are set. People like to *enjoy* life and most like to do that by eating food.

Explain. Glucose is necessary for your brain to function. It is the only source of energy for the brain.

Fat makes you feel "full" quicker than carbs. Also, carbs cause an insulin spike, thus making you body more able and likely to store excess calories as fat. Fat in foods does not have this dramatic effect on your body.

Do you have to monitor your sugar intake? Sorry that I ask, but I know little on the topic of ADD.

I'm enjoying food as much as I ever have. I'm just eating healthful food.
