It is not without precedence for the governor in Florida to extent the early vote. Both Jeb and Christ did it (both republican governors). The issue as pointed out by some posters is that the sheer number of constitutional amendments and local races has cluttered the ballot.
When I early voted last Monday, the line was 3 hours long in my county. So long lines have been the norm, not the exception. If the counties had done the smart thing, they would of opened more polling places, instead of just a few. But this cost money and manpower that many board of elections do not have available to staff for the early voting.
