Obviously they don't understand that marathon and track and field are usually won by black people. How many white guy do you see winning the Boston or San Francisco marathon? Always some black person from Kenya

Maybe it's because of the rampant racism against minority athletes in Europe. It would suck to bike all that way while being abused the entire time.

I think 7 of the 11 starting players in the French world cup team were black.
2 or 3 at the least in the UK as well.
And a lot of the UK's top athletes are black too (or were, I don't keep up with athletics, so I only know a few, half of whom are black).

Also, the OP is racist, as he makes no mention of asian people.
Are they somehow less important than blacks, latinos or whites? Hmm? HMM?

There are quite a few professional Asian cyclists right now. The problem is that cycling in Europe, where the races are considered most competitive, is really hard to adjust to.

Perhaps one of the reasons is because there is no true effort to find or develop African American cyclists?

"Somebody has stole yo batt'ry. I say we go kick tha mothafvcker's @ss." -some Eddie Murphy movie, or skit....or something he was involved in.

i'm sure if there were african americans putting in the effort to be hard core bike racers they'd get found. rolling around the hood isn't going to get you there tho.

The reasoning is basically the same as any other activity, sporting or not, with underrepresented minority groups. How come there aren't a lot of black yacht owners, or graduate students? Most rock bands are made up of white males. You don't see very many black skateboarders, either.

If anyone thinks that black culture and white culture (at least in America) are the same, they're fooling themselves. Sure, they overlap in places, but there are definitely things that are common in one of these cultures, but not the other, for whatever reason.

but but, they HAVE TO BE. dammit. that's the only way to equality don't you see? what are you thinking saying such things?!? people are different, that's just not allowed!

I was watching the Tour de France, and I realized that there are only white and latin riders, but no black riders. Any particular reason? Are those reasons related also to the swimmers?.
I'm trying to be politically correct, and not offend any one, since I can't call them African american.

Why the hell are you asking us? 😕

A better question is how a boy from a sedentary, truck driving redneck state like Texas took up a French sport like bicycle racing and became the best in the world at it. 😕

Jules, if I can't ask on this forum, then where? Anandtech forums are suppose to be full of well educated and open minded people, and it was a genuine question, which I don't have an answer thus I asked to the forum. If you don't have any inteligent replied then just ignore it. I can see how you get you Lifer status.
